Odds of baby B... Thoughts needed please!!

I thought I would come here. I found out on 6w6d that there were 2 sacks.

One had a baby and heart beat measuring 6w4d and then another sack at 5w5d. They will not rescan until 11/3. I am being told that it is a missed twin pregnancy and nothing will develop, but how can they know?

It happened so fast, that I even asked the MW about a yolk sac, and she said that nothing was noted, if there was one or not.

What is a mis-shapped sack?

The tech said it was perfect, but the MW said it wasnt? What is it supposed to look like?

I am totally happy with one baby... I just need to be prepared either way.

I am really confused and not sure what is going on at the moment.

Any thoughts, advise, stories????

Thanks!

Hey, Kat i cant belive my prediction for you was true, i am sorry to hear this
news. So you said the mw said it was mis-shaped, a mis-shaped sac means that it is starting to collapse. What they look for is a round sac like a golf ball then a yolk in the round gestation sac. Now if there is a yolk sac in the gestation sac then there IS a fetal pole.

A yolk sac comes with fetal pole eg. no yolk sac no fetal pole/ yolk sac fetal pole. at 5wks 5 days there should be no fetal pole BUT there should be a yolk sac So if there is a yolk sac then there is a fetal pole its just to small to be seen yet and by your next scan it should be viable.

If there is no yolk sac then this can be called a blighted ovum it is possible
for a yolk sac and a fetal pole to start developing but due to chromosome defect the pregnancy will fail to grow and the gestation sac will start to collapse - mis shape. They call this type of pregnancy a molar,

I belive that at 5wks 5 days baby B is just growing and it sounds like this has fertilsied later than baby A and this explaines WHY baby B is 5wks 5days.
So because its not as old in dates as baby A your bound to see what you have,

Did they not tell you if baby B had a yolk sac ?

Can you not call the scan department and ask them to check your scan report because you was not told if baby B had a yolk sac, tell them you are aware there was no fetal pole but would like to know if there is a yolk sac because your next scan isnt till your week 11.

You have the right to know if baby B had a yolk sac and if its not in your preg files then it will be on your scan report and its the scan department
that can tell you this. Other wise i would be ordering a earlier scan,

Dont let them fob you off, tell them at 5wks 5days how can they rule out baby B its to earlier to diagnose this and go upsetting any one.

Good luck Kat xxx

I forgot to mention that the sack was a perfect circle. I asked the MW about the yolk sack and she said nothing was mentioned either way. Just that it was a failed twin due to no heartbeat. I pressed on to get the other ultrasound. It was as if they were not going to recheck.

This was a regular ob office, not an RE..

Then if she said the gest sac was a perfect circle she means the yolk sac was mishaped then this explaines why they have said failed twin. A mis- shaped yolk sac is abnormal but STILL you have had no explanation really.
I honestly dont think they can rule out any pregnancy at 5wks 5 days that is way to earlier for anything hun.

It sounds like they are just gonna wait and see like time will tell but hey,
You can demand another scan at the early pregnancy unit in hospital for reasurrance. Dont feel like your being a pain - you just need to know if there has been any improvment and you have the right to have another scan and a better explanation. At 5wks 5days how can any doctor say oh no thats a failed pregnancy, I cant belive it to be honest and you need another scan at 6wks + to make sure, a fetal pole should be seen at 6wks so ask for another scan, phone them up and tell them you want another scan to see whats happing with this second sac. if they say its failed you dont need one, then say how you can say this at 5wks 5days pregnant, i want another scan for my own reasurrance.

Hey, Kat if you cant sit out the wait which i am sure the waiting is just a tense stressing situation. I would give them another call and ask for a earlier apointment, tell them its a stressfull situation which is not helping your pregnancy, you would like to know the outcome on twin b sooner than later, Having to wait is just becoming stressfull for you.

They have to act and bring your scan earlier of course its gonna be stessfull wanting to know whats going on, therefor they need to take this into considaration. Maybe speak to your generl practionser doctor she/he can get you a earlier scan to confirm twins or not, if you are getting no satasfaction for a earlier date from your obg then i would speak to your gp asap

Hugs to you
x

I have shared this story many times before on this and other boards, and i hope it can help you....

So back in April 08 DH and I did our first IUI. We got our BFP!! Betas were

14dpiui 117
16dpiui 221
19dpiui 806

At 5w4d I went for my first u/s. They saw an empty gest sac. Thats it, no yolk, no pole, just empty sac. RE said that it was most likely a chemical pg and that i may miscarry but to come back in a week. At 6w3d DH and i went for u/s #2 and we saw a hb!!! YAY! THen the tech looked further and saw another "area" which she tagged as a "bleed" since it was mishapen and empty, so it "couldnt be another viable sac" ok......so at 8w i go back for my last scan and to be released from my RE and TWO HB's!!!!!!!!!! That was no bleed! Then of course they follow it up with, well, baby b's sac is too small and the baby is measuring behind so it is probably not viable. So i go to my OB that night, in tears, who informs me that they are crazy and the baby is fine. Well, yep my "baby b" might be smaller than his brother (to this day) but he is very much here and wonderful! Please do not give up hope yet! and if for some reason there is no "baby b" for you, there is a baby a and a great hb! CONGRATS on that! I firmly believe that things happen for a reason, but i really think you should keep the faith a little longer. I will be thinking about you!

I have a positive story for you.

When I was pregnant with my first set of twins, I had my first u/s at 5wks and 4 days (or something like that). It was a Friday. 2 babies, 2 yolk sacs, no heartbeats, too early. The following Monday, I started bleeding, heavy bright red. I called, but it was Memorial Day and they were closed. I was told to wait it out and come in the next day. I was probably losing one or both of the babies. The bleeding stopped later that day. The next day, Tuesday (6 wks exactly), I went in and got an u/s. Baby A looked great, still no HB, but she had developed from a yolk sac to an embryo. Baby B looked the same as he had on the previous Friday, yolk sac only. I was told this was because I was losing baby B, that he stopped growing and that was the reason for the size discrepancy and the bleeding. So, I was rescheduled to come back a week later to confirm the loss. I waited my week. When I went back, there they both were with 2 beating hearts. Baby B, my boy, continued to grow more slowly and was a little less than a week behind her through the first trimester. It wasn't until around 20wks that he passed her up in size. Ironically, he was born over 2lbs bigger than her.

So, don't lose hope!! It doesn't sound like it was a definitive answer yet. I too would call and see if you can get in sooner and explain why. Hopefully, they will understand. I'm very surprised they want to make you wait a month.

Good luck to you! Let us know how it goes.
