How many boxes diapers do twins go thru in the first few months?

Hi!

I am curious how many boxes of diapers twins go thru in the first few months.

I been purchasing boxes of diapers at BRU whenever there is a good sale and not sure if I am over/underbuying.

I currently have four boxes of size 1, two boxes of 2-3, and two boxes of 3.

Thanks

My twins aren't here yet, but from my experience with my DS, I don't think you're overbuying. He went through up to 8 diapers a day (not always that many, especially once started sleeping through the night), and he stayed in the same size for quite a while... The only thing I would caution against is buying too many of one type. We preferred Huggies when he was in the smaller sizes (especially when he was in the preemie size), and then as he got bigger, we preferred Pampers Cruisers (which is what we are using now). I'm sure you'll end up using using whatever you have, though, regardless of the brand. :-)

Congrats on the twins! My boys were full term (37 weeks) and stayed in NB diapers for about 3 weeks. Then ONE of them (nice huh?) moved up to size one. Also, we had to play around with the brands for a while until we found one that worked for us. IMHO i would stop buying them. Just have some NB and size 1 on hand and go from there. Good luck with the rest of your pg!

We only used pampers newborn, huggies didnt work for us until she was a little bigger. We switched to huggies at size 2 and have used them ever since. I think we switched from Newborn to size one at around 6 weeks and maybe another 6-10 weeks before switching to size 2. We were in size 3 for probably a year. She just turned 2 and we just switched her to size 4. She's a pretty average sized kid.

With twins I think you will be able to use all of your size 1's, but I would probably purchase some more newborns. I think once she hit size 2 we were going through around 200 diapers a month and then by about 6-8 months it slowed down to about half that much. Now we just use one case from Costco every other month. It's just at the beginning when they poop all the time that you use so many diapers. I definately wouldn't purchase anymore 2's or 3's right now. Plus like someone else said. Different diapers fit each baby differently so you might find you don't like the type you're buying. Diapers go on sale pretty frequently so you should be able to catch a deal later on when you know what you like and have a better idea of what you need.

Thanks!

I did not purchase any newborn diapers because I am hoping the hospital will give me some? Did your hospital give you any diapers?

I purchased the Pampers Swaddlers in the 1s. My family picked up for me Pampers Baby Dry in 2, and Pampers Cruisers in 3. LOL. I just told them Pampers and they just got what was available I guess. They went on the day of a big sale.

I've never heard of the hospitals giving you diapers to take home. Just what's in your room when you leave. Unless you get a lot as gifts you'll need to get some.

Babies will feed every 3 hours or so and you will likely change your babies before each feed (to document their fluid output). So, you should be going through 16-20 diapers per 24 hours. I threw in the extra 4 diapers for pee accidents while changing.

We are currently going through a package of 40 diapers every two days.

Our babies are in Pampers Swaddlers (up to 10 pounds).

They do go through a lot. I can't even begin to give you a number. I use www.diapers.com. They are awesome. The prices are very competitive with say target or walmart. Infact the brand we use is about 50 cents cheaper per pack on diapers.com If you buy $49 worth of stuff(they sell everything) it is free 2 day shipping. You also don't pay sales tax.

I usually make an order about every 10 days or so, but I get a lot of stuff from there, diapers, formula, mylicon, bottles and accessories, baby shampoo, diaper cream, ect. They even have organic snacks that I buy for my 2yo dd. I highly, highly recommend it. You never even have to leave your house, its the best. When I get to the 2nd to the last pack, I place an order and I always get it before I run out.

Wow Miss Conception...that's a lot of diapers. I know everyone has different diapering philosophies, but I don't think it's always necessary to change them that often. We really don't change unless they poop or the diaper is wet, and not just a little wet but closer to the full side. My pedi said that with the high quality/absorbancy of diapers now they keep the baby's bum pretty dry so it isn't necessary to change them every time they pee. And as far as documenting how much they are going all you really need so know is that they are soaking at least (I think) 6-8 diapers per day. If you wanted and if your babies don't rash too easily you could probably almost cut your diaper consumption in half. I know that with dd we changed her more than necessary at first mostly because we didn't really know any better and because we were paranoid. I bet we use fewer diapers (per baby) this time around.
