8 wks pg with twins and one is measuring 3 days behind. Should I be concerned?
Here is some background info:
We had our first U/S @ 6w4d - 2 sacs, 2 babies (Twin A measured 6w4d, Twin B measured 6w2d), 2 heartbeats, both at about 120 bpm At 6w6d I had some severe abdominal cramping during the middle of night. Went in for another U/S to make sure everything was okay @ 7w0d - 2 sacs, but only 1 heartbeat at 132 bpm. We were told one of the babies had stopped growing. Of course, we were heartbroken. Then at our U/S @ 8w0d - 2 sacs, 2 babies, 2 heartbeats. Twin A measured 8w0d with a heartbeat of 169 bpm. Twin B measured 7w4d with a heartbeat of 174 bpm. We were shocked to discover we were still having twins, but thrilled. My RE is concerned with Twin B's growth being 3 days behind, despite the strong heartbeat. He said there is still hope that everything will be fine, but there is also a chance that we may lose the baby. He wants us to be cautiously optimistic. I have another u/s in 2 weeks with my OB, as my RE released me yesterday. I will be 10 weeks at that point and RE says that u/s will tell a lot. In the meantime, I'm hoping and praying for the best. My question is, has anyone experienced this before or know someone who has and what was the result? I'd appreciate hearing any experience - good or bad. TIA

I find it very strange that your doctor would be concerned with the difference in growth rates. At your stage of gestation, it is not uncommon to have these differences in growth because the u/s technology is not exact and because the embryos are so tiny. Many women have these differences early on and go on to have wonderfully healthy babies.
Best of luck! |

Mine weighed the exact same when they were born and they always measured different days. When you are this early they are so small just the slightest bit off on the measurement can be three days. It is much more accurate the bigger they get when they do crown to rump. They are two different babies and they are going to be different. It is hard not to compare but you may as well get used to not doing it now because it is even harder not to compare them once they are here...
