Bleeding...

Hi! I am 13 weeks pg with twins (fraternal from IVF).
At 6 weeks, my RE told me there was some bleeding in my uterus that he could see on an ultrasound. He said this is quite common with multiple pregnancies due to the rapidly growing uterus, and that if I had vaginal bleeding, they would have me go on bedrest. I didn't have any then.
At 11 weeks I had some brown/ rust colored spotting. I panicked and called OB. He said it is brown, not a lot, and no cramping, so he had me come in for an u/s the next day. Twins were jumping around in there, and there was no bleeding visible on the u/s.
12th week I had very light spotting one day after my NT scan. I had an appt anyway, and the u/s again showed bouncing babies.
Last night and this morning, there is more blood. It is more in volume than before, but still brown. No cramping, occasional twinges.

Anyone else have this? Is this just what my RE said, that my uterus is expanding quickly causing some bleeding? Will this keep on happening?

p.s. there has been no sex. We are on a 1st tri ban that I hoped would be over now.

Bebehope, has your OB told you where the placentas of your twins are located? I too had very similiar symptoms but mine did not begin until around 11 weeks. I had on and off bleeding, sometimes very heavy, which after several in depth u/s resulted in a diagnosis of partial placenta previa from Baby A's placenta. I was put on bedrest for two weeks. I went back for another u/s and this time it showed Baby A's placenta completely covering my cervix and I was diagnosed with complete placenta previa. I had another 2 1/2 weeks of bedrest. I continued to have rusty, brown colored discharge until I was almost 18 weeks. But, with u/s's every two weeks, bedrest, and pelvic rest everything turned out fine. In my situation, I just had to be patient and give my uterus time to grow so that Baby A's placenta would ascend higher into my uterus and move far away from my cervix.

I know a couple of other women on FT that had early pregnancy bleeding and they were diagnosed with a Subchorionic Hematoma, they both are doing very well now and are also expecting multiples.

Congrats on your twin pregnancy! And I hope that you find out what could be the cause of the bleeding soon.

Ailese

Thank you! I really appreciate your response.
The bleeding actually increased last night and I went to the ER and had an abdominal and vaginal u/s. They did not tell me where the placentas were, but they did not find any bleeding on the u/s. My doctor thinks that b/c it was a gush of blood vs. continuous bleeding (or the brownish or rust colored bleeding I had been having), that it is likely that one of the growing placentas tried to attach to a uterine blood vessel and did not properly attach, creating a gush of blood. My cervix is in good shape (not thinned, etc). I have an appt with him in 2 weeks and I'll ask him the position of the placentas. If the bleeding gets any worse or changes, I'll see him sooner...

I had off and on spotting with my twins from 8-12 weeks. Once I stopped the POI injections the spotting resolved. Not sure if you are on these but I later found out they can cause bleeding too. Hang in there I know it's scary but the stress isn't good for the three of you. My boys were delivered early due to a fall but are both fine.

Thank you, Cautioushope. I stopped the PIO my 9th week... I appreciate your input. I really want my babies to stay in there as long as possible. My doc said if this bleeding continues to happen, it puts me at higher risk for preterm birth... I'm glad your boys are okay!
