Twins with only 1 hb

Hey Everyone,
I am 7 weeks pregnant today and I had my first u/s this morning. It showed twins; but only one had a heartbeat. I am scheduled to go back for another u/s next week to see if the other develops a heartbeat. The dr said this happens often and they are very close to the same size, so he is hopeful. But I can't get over the fact that the heartbeat is supposed to start around 6 weeks. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what the outcome was.

Thanks
Rachel

Rachel- I saw that nobody had responded...I didn't want to leave you hanging. I hope that your second baby will catch up to the first. This happened with a woman in my cycle group. She had a size discrepancy too, and I think at 8 weeks she saw 2 hearts beating. I haven't seen her on here for a couple of weeks (it's number 6 and 7 for her though, so she is busy!).
I have read about other women who see this and the 2nd baby does not develop: vanishing twin syndrome. I have read that it's quite common. Like I said, I am hoping your second one catches up like my cycle buddy's did. Good luck at your next ultrasound.

That would be me bebe is talking about! I was JUST about to reply without reading your responses. First off yes these blessings are babies #6 ad 7 for me, so yes my hands are full...of love that is! I love love love having a big family

My baby B was really small at first. we saw baby A and had a heartbeat at 5 weeks 6 days. We saw nothing indicating a twin then. They even told me it was a singleton pregnancy. Week 6 I had to come back and we saw baby B but he/she was so small they wanted to count my baby out Week 7 I went back and not only did they both have heart beats, but my baby B caught ALL the way up to A. Now, at 10 weeks, baby B is taking the lead! God is good1
