Your body after delivery
It's only been a week since I delivered my twins, but I am a little freaked out by what my body is doing. With my other kids, I definitely still had a belly and was carrying extra weight at this point, but this time is so different. I have this VERY pronounced bulge in my tummy, looks like I am pregnant with a junior-size basketball. The rest of me is not even that big, it is just this weird big bump. I have always breastfed before, but I am not this time b/c of some previous health issues, so is this just my uterus not contracting as much as when I breastfed? Or is this a twin thing? I swear I think something is wrong, like they left some stuff up me or something... What do you think? Am I silly for even looking at my body at this point in time? Should I just cover up the mirrors and live in my pjs?

I'm only pregnant with twins about 15.5 weeks right now, but after my singleton, I didn't even want to look at the mirrors. Give yourself time, you just delivered two babies! (Congratulations by the way!!!)

Hi Kristan-
I just delivered my twins on 7/14. I know what you mean! I am not bfing but I am pumping. I have PCOS so I dont produce enough milk to feed my babies. I supplement with formula. I didnt pump or bf with my DS. I can tell you that my uterus is contracting a lot faster this time with pumping than it did last time! But I still have a BIG belly You have to remember that you had TWO babies in there... so expect it to take TWICE as long. Just give it time. It took us almost 9 months to make the belly... we cant expect it to be gone over night! (I know, easier said that done!)Congrats on the babies!!!! |

Kirstan,
You definitely need to give you body more time to recover this time around! I thought you might be interested in this thread on the "Parenting Multiples" board. If it makes you feel any better, just imagine how much worse off I'm going to be! http://www3.fertilethoughts.com/foru...d.php?t=600312

I looked 5 months pregnant after the twins were born. I wore maternity clothes for quite awhile after they were born. It took a couple weeks for the pooch to start shrinking to the point that I didn't look pregnant anymore. I have heard that you should give yourself 9 months to lose your baby weight and at least 18 with twins or more. My twins are now 20 months old and I weigh about 30lbs less now than when I got pregnant.

Oh yeah, same thing happened to me. I was so worried about it that while at the hosital they took X-rays to make sure everything was OK (they had to do an emergency C-section to get the second baby, my DS out and didn't have time to count all the surgical instruments, lol). All was fine and I was told by the Dr. this was totally normal. It did go away about a month after I delivered.

Don't worry - it's normal. I remember asking my dh "Do you think they left one in there?"
I just could not believe how round I still was! I bet you will notice a big change in the next few weeks.

My twins are 2 1/2 weeks old and I am still wearing my maternity clothes. I only have 5 lbs. to lose to be back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I swear that I lost weight in other parts of my body (legs, arms) because my belly is still big. I am bfing exclusively and I the belly is shrinking every day, but I still have at least another week to go before I can expect to fit into any non-maternity pants.
