Worried about twins growth and overall update

Hi there,

Well, the good news is that I'm still here - 29 weeks today! However, I had my peri appt. today (I go weekly) and a few things worried me....

My cervix is measuring around 1.5. I've had two cerclages - one at 17 weeks and then another to repair and replace the stitches that were already falling out at 24 weeks. Right after that cerclage, it measured around 2. Then, iIt was measuring 3 for the past two weeks. It seemed to lenghthen for a bit. Now it's down to 1.5. However, it's still closed and the stitches seem to be holding. It's funneled up to the stitches but it's been that way forever now. I asked my peri if she was worried that it dropped so much and she said she's just glad there's as much left as there is. She says she goes more on how it looks than the actual measurement (she sees my crazy cervix every week so she's well aware of how it looks). She still thought it looked okay. This actually is not my major concern....now I'm more concerned about the babies.....

They did their growth measurements today and our boy is now measuring about a week behind and the girl is measuring about 5 days behind. Our boy was always measuring a few days ahead and the girl was measuring right on target. Now, the boy has fallen behind the girl and they're both measuring small. It was very difficult to measure the boy's head since it was extremely low in my cervix. She couldn't even really measure it. She just kind of did what she could and got an approximate measurement (she filled in where she thought some of the head lines would be). Their weights were 2lb 8oz (boy) and 2lb 9oz (girl). Our peri didn't seem worried at all and I can't figure out why not. Isn't it worrisome for babies to always measure on target or a few days ahead and then suddenly be a week behind? What do you think? I'm really worried my eating/weight gain is affecting it. I used to eat more and now I find it harder and harder. I was underweight to start and I was doing well gaining weight for a while. The past few weeks, I haven't done well at all. My peri told me to eat like there's no tomorrow. I just hope that there's not something wrong with them and that's why they're falling behind. I'd actually prefer that it's me and my eating. That I can at least control. Please tell me your thoughts. All their other tests were fine....heartrates, blood flow through the placenta, amniotic fluid, etc. Oh, one other thing, the amniotic fluid was down last week possible due to the fact that I was on Indocin. It was back up this week (yay!). Any reassuring stories out there of how twins growth fell behind and then went back up or at least everything was okay when they arrived? Thanks!

Unfortunately, I've been having lots of contractions. They keep raising my terb dose and I still contract. My peri said we're just going to have to be very aggressive with drugs, maybe use Indocin again for 48 hours, maybe raise my terb again, etc. We can't go any higher on the Procardia cause I'm on the highest dose already. She said I'm definitely a challenging case. My uterus is so difficult! I worry about all these drugs too. I hope they don't affect me or the babies. Also, she said we'd have to go into the hospital if I break through too much on contractions or if I start bleeding. I may have to do a mag wash again. Did I mention that the boy's head is literally on my cervix. I doubt that is helping!

I also might have to start dealing with the GD (I failed the one hour test twice) but my peri doesn't want me to deal with it yet cause she wants me eating a lot. She doesn't want to put me through the 3 hour test so she's going to have Matria come out and teach me how to prick my finger, etc. I'm not sure when she'll start that. She seems to want to hold off for now. We did do a CBC on me today to make sure my platlets are okay (re the Lovenox). So, I know I'm getting good care. I just worry that she isn't worried enough. I sound like a lunatic!!

Anyway, I just wanted to update any of you who were interested and also find out what you think about our twins' growth. Thanks so much and hope everyone on here is doing well!

With my surrobabes their weights were fine til 30w when Morgan seemed to be starting to catch up to his sis. Then at 33w he had gained some, but not as much as hoped he would. We also started having fluid level problems. The put me in the hospital on IV fluids to bring the levels up, give me steriods and to monitor the babies, their stress tests and BPPs always came back fine. Then at 35w he had only gained 50g in two weeks. The peri decided to deliver the babies after that appointment. Megan was able to stay in her parents room and Morgan was only in the NICU because he was small and needed to learn to suck and gain weight. He went home at 10 days at around four and a half pounds. They are now six weeks and doing just beautifully.
Has your peri talked about giving you the steriod shots? It sounds like you have a wonderful doctor who is monitoring you very carfully. You and your babies are in good hands. As far as your weight I would suggest drinking protein shakes or having your DH get some high protein powder that you can add to your diet. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I know it's hard, but try to stay relaxed and not let yourself stress too much.

BIG HUGS,
Amy

Thanks so much for responding. I did get the steroid shots at 24 weeks when I went in for my second cerclage. I'm glad we did that. Thanks for sharing your success story with me. I really appreciate it! It gives me hope! Congrats on your sweet babies.

Hi Rindi- Good to see you and the babes are still hanging in there! I think the measurement issue is really not that unusual with multiples. Mine were both measuring ahead until the 28 week growth scan and B had fallen back to right on target, and A was actually 5 days behind. It freaked me out a little, but my OB said that twins' growth rates start slowing down in the 3rd trimester and that they were both great sizes. They have stayed right at their target measurements or 3-5 days behind since then. Causes to worry would be if they fell way behind OR there became a major difference in size, but it sounds like your little ones did the same thing as mine. Continued good luck! Hard to believe you have 2 viable babies! I am so glad that you have made it this far... and SO glad that I am only 2 weeks from the 37-week mark! WHEW! Best wishes, Isabella
