I feel dumb asking this, especially since I have been pregnant before, but can anyone give me advice on how to tell the difference between early contractions and baby movement???? With twins (almost 20 wks) this time, the movement is so much *more* (duh) .... but every once in a while, it get pretty strong pains/pangs that last several seconds. The pains subside, but I am so scared of missing signs of PTL, that I wonder if this is something to be worried about. Is it movement, gas, ligament pain, what? It is usually inthe lower part of my abdomen, and feels like both a pushing and atightening at the same time....? I know I should call my OB, but I really want to hear from you ladies "in the trenches"As far as I know, my OB has never been pregnant with multiples before, so he really can't describe the differences in the sensations.
thanks in advance,

During my Triplet pregnancy I went through that. I was always so unsure of whether it was strong movement or braxton hicks or real contractions. At your next appointment have your OB check your cervix to make sure all is ok and that will help ease your mind a bit. Ask what exactly you need to look for in terms of Labor pains. This way you will feel a bit more armed with knowledge.
Now what I was told by other ladies is to be aware of pressure like you need to go #2. Also a set pattern. Time the tightening in your tummy. If it is consistant like every 20 min or every 40 min and the tightening lasts a good while then take action. I thought I was in pre term labor at 23 wks. I went to Labor and Delivery and it was simple uterus irritability but hay better safe than sorry right.HTH
You are not alone i that feeling of not knowing. Dont feel silly for asking ?'s It helps your peace of mind and that is important. There is nothing worse than a stressed out mommy to be. So ask away!
