Nuchal u/s came back with a positive on 1 baby

Yesterday I had an u/s and one of the two babies came back positive for downs/heart defect. I'm so very sad and worried and wished that I never took the stupid test. Now I have to wait 1 week for the blood test results.

I don't know what to do with all the statistics I was given. They said for my age, I had like 1 in 700 of each baby having downs and then with this u/s it dropped to like 1 in 400. The blood test will either increase or decrease that number. For the baby that tested normal, he/she was given 1 in 4,000 chance. ARGGG. I cant handle all this info sometimes!!

To think that I said yes to this test so I can have an u/s so I can see my babies and the peri said I really no risk for my age. What kind of mess did I get myself into? What is funny is that if I *do* test positive with the blood results and it drops me down to 1 in 200 I dont think I want to do an amnio because isnt the risk of m/c like 1%? If I'm not completely dumb, wouldnt it be stupid for me to do an amnio? I've had such a LONG journey (see sig) that I don't think I can handle another "failure"!!

Thanks for letting me vent.

Jen-
I don't know much about those statistics, etc. but wanted to offer you some support.
I know how every thing seems devastating to us when we have come so far to be to this point.
Just stay positive while waiting for the blood results-(I know easier said...)
As far as the amnio, I have had numerous friends "opt" out of it. Not for the 1% risk, but because they wanted to enjoy the rest of their pregnany and made the decision that they would love their baby no matter what- so why stress themselves out??
Whatever you decide, best of luck to you and your babies.
Take Care.
