Anyone who had amissed miscarraige and waited to Miscarry naturally..your experience

Hi ladies, I am sorry for you losses, I have been reading your posts..I need some of your experiences. I am waiting 6 weeks already from the point my little one stopped growing, almost 4 weeks since diagnosed with no hb at my 11 week nt ultrasound appt. baby measured 7.5 on 3d and 8.5 on regular ultrasound. I am waiting on bloodwork results of hcg and something else..fibrinogen I think to make sure I don't develop clotting disorder. Have any of you waited this long?? I am not in pain, no cramps, spotting, nothing..I am still very neauseas so I assume my hcg levels are still high? I don't mind waiting if it is medically safe to do so. How long did you have to wait and how was it when it finally happened? If you waited long, did your baby reabsorb? My ob said it is possible..I appreciate your stories..thank you so much..I am sorry we are all here.

    Hi There

I'm sorry for your loss. I've had two miscarriages in the last 10 mos. My first one happened naturally, however I suspect it was very early in the pregnancy, probably around the 4th or 5th week. My dr watched my beta levels and that seemed to be enough.

My recent on, just two weeks ago did not happen naturally. I was diagnosed with a "missed" miscarriage. The fetus was about 7.5 weeks according to measurements, and I believed I was 11-12 weeks when I was diagnosed if I go my my LMP. Both my family doctor and the OB suggested taking meds to move things along. The meds I was given was Misoprostol. Both doctors expressed concern about the risk of infection, and we really wanted to begin the healing process, so we opted to go this route. I'm afraid it doesn't answer your question about letting things happen naturally, but in some ways it was more natural than the D&C. It's a decision you need to make with your doctor.

    Take care of yourself,

    Hi momtwothree,
Thank you for your reply. I have been considering the use of that rx since it is taking so long. Did you have any bad side effects? How long was the miscarraige completed after you took the rx? I am kind of afraid to use it, I don't know why. I meet with my ob Monday I assume this will be one of my options discussed at this point. I would definitely choose this over a d&c. Thank you for your help. I too am sorry for your losses.

Danielle, my losses were earlier than yours and I did not try medicinal aid, so I'm not much help that way. I can say that one mc was near completing at 11w4d (in retrospect) when I got a D&C due to prolonged bleeding; it was my 1st pg, so I didn't know options. Now after much more experience , if a mc weren't progressing and there were no signs of infection, I would go to my acupunturist first (give that a week or two), then maybe the medicine (although I hear contractions can be worse than natural, my loss at 7w was labor like naturally), then D&C.

I'm sorry for your losses. Wishing you a full recovery soon.

    Hi Danielle

The meds do cause very intense cramping, which is what they need the uterus to do to move things out. I was also told it can cause diarreah, but I didn't get that. The gave me two doses of the meds. You take the first dose, give it 24hrs and if nothing happens take the second dose. The intern said take the second dose regardless, but my family dr said if the first dose worked it should be enough. I took the meds about 12:30 in the afternoon, and by around 3 the cramping started. By 5 pm it was very intense. I had been given percocet to help with the pain. I can't take codine, otherwise they would have given me Tylenol 3's for the pain. The percocet made me sleepy, so I slept on and off after taking that. I also found a heating pad very useful in coping with the pain. They do warn of monitoring the blood flow, the doctor will go over what to watch for. Don't panic over that, they give you the same instructions about monitoring the blood flow when you miscarry naturally, however do ensure you pay attention to the instructions you are given and monitor the blood flow just the same. Hubby stayed home with me while I took the meds, I didn't want to be alone. The worst was over by 9-10 pm that evening. By the next day I was still cramping a bit, but mostly functional. It was more like pre-Aunt Flow pain. About 4 days later my dr sent me for an ultrasound to make sure that everything was clear. The tech found something on the screen, but wasn't sure what it was, so I had to take the second dose. The second time around was far less painful, and didn't require pain meds to help me cope with the pain. Right now I'm just doing beta's once a week, my last one was down to 151. I have to do this until they hit 0. I was told to wait for 2 periods before trying again to make sure the meds are out of my system. I don't know at this point whether we will or won't try again. We have differing opinions, hubby hated seeing me in pain, physically and emotionally, and is afraid that we will go through this again. For me right now it depends on the day, some days I say yes, but on my bad days I say no. We'll make that decision for certain when we can be more objective, so maybe waiting two periods is a good thing........

I've never done the d&c but know a few people who have. They told me they still had some pain afterwards, but they opted to go that route to be done with the whole thing. It was what felt right for them. The risks they did tell be about were Asherman's Syndrome which causing scarring in the uterus and can affect your ability to conceive and carry in the future, and of course any of the usual risks with being put under using anesthetic.

You need to chose what feels right for you. Both the Ob and the family doctor indicated the meds were better for the body because it is less invasive, and while it was helping move things along it was still allowing the body to do what it should have done naturally anyways. There is the risk that body doesn't expel everything and you may end up having to do the d&c anyways. This risk would still be there if the body miscarried naturally as well, which is why it is very important that you do the follow up your doctor prescribes, and that you watch for any of the signs and symptoms your doctor tell you may indicate infection.

Neither method is without it's side effects or risks, so be sure you ask as many questions as you can think of, and if needed, take some time to discuss with your partner.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask, you can pm me if you want.

    take care,
