Did anyone wait to m/c naturally?

I'm in the middle of experiencing my second m/c. The first was a year ago in June and I had a d&c. We started trying again and were lucky enough to conceive again with IVF and just found out late last week at 8 weeks that I m/c'd again.

Doc wants to do d&c again - I'm undecided. I don't want to "stay pregnant" however I'm not excited about having another d&c.

So - has anyone opted to "wait" for the body to handle it naturally instead of the d&c? How long did you wait and how painful was it? The upside to the d&c is that its painless. At least mine was. No residual bleeding or anything. Very easy.

Thanks for any information.

Kristin

I'm so very sorry for all your losses...((Hug))

My m/c was natural but happened very quickly. Unfortionately with some women it can take a long time...days even weeks.

Mine was also quite painful...lots of bleeding and cramps. As the m/c progressed the cramping became more contraction like. Once the baby passed the pain eased and the bleeding slowed a bit.

My suggestion with the waiting is to decide how long you are willing to wait, if you don't m/c on your own by that point then have your doctor set to do the D&C. It's a compromise of sorts...at least you know there is an ending in sight.

Again I'm so sorry you are going thru this...
Hugs and prayers...

Thanks Shellie - right now the d&c is scheduled for the 19th. I'm concerned because its my second one and I don't want there to be any side effects from it. I'm also not looking forward to doing it "naturally". I've heard it can be incredibly painful. Either way I guess it is the lesser of two evils isn't it?

You're info has helped some though. I do appreciate it.

I am so sorry for your loss Kristin..

I had 2 natural m/c's..one at 11 weeks and the other at 5 weeks. The 11 wk m/c was very painful, and took about a week or so for things to start. The 2nd one started days after I found out that the pregnancy wasn't viable. I opted not to have d&cs as they can leave scar tissue. My docs were supportive of my choice and just kept drawing betas to make sure my levels were going down.

do whatever you feel is right, that's what I believe is the best choice. many hugs to you at this time..

I had 2 D&Cs and 9 natural losses. I would take natural every time - not that one ever WANTS to experience a loss - but for me the additional stress of the D&C process, and the impersonal hospital experience among strangers for something so private that I wanted and needed to manage my own way, made things so much worse. Not even counting the dollar cost.

Does it hurt? Like bad cramps. But different IF testing procedures hurt as much or more in my experience.

((hugs)) and good luck,

NL

I recently had my 3rd D&C done. After finding out there was no heart beat at 7.5 weeks, I was planning to wait for a natural miscarriage. However, after reading stories online about natural miscarriages, I got scared and changed my mind, opting for D&C instead. I also didn't want to wait for weeks for miscarriage to happen. The D&C went well, but I've been regretting it ever since because I'm worried about scarring. I should have saved the D&C for only when it's absolutely necessary. Just wanted to share this with you for your consideration.

I am currently waiting to m/c naturally. I found out Monday that our baby died at 7w3d, and I should have been 10w1d. I have had 2 previous natural m/c and 2 D&C. I honestly didn't want to have to have surgery again, but am not looking forward to the physical pain of a natural m/c (not to mention the waiting). I agree with NancyLee about the impersonal hospital experience for something so personal and emotionally painful, and the anxiety I feel before the procedure. Waiting was the best option for me, but if I don't m/c on my own in 2 weeks, then I will end up having the D&C.

So sorry for your loss.

Thanks so much for everyone's thoughts. I do appreciate it. This is my 2nd D&C. My D&C is scheduled for the 19th unless something happens before that. I'm not looking forward to it but the waiting is just too emotionally hard for me. I don't know that I can wait it out. I'm concerned about scarring but I'm also concerned about infection if everything doesn't pass naturally. I swear its a no win situation.

ChristyAnn I am so sorry for your loss but know you aren't alone. I think that is one of the things that helps me. I know I'm not "out of the ordinary" - unfortunately. There are others who are enduring the same tragedy and survive and thrive even. Knowing there is hope is so comforting.

Thank you again all -

Kristin

Kristin, I am sorry for your loss. Infertility combined with pregnancy loss, is lousy to say the least.

One of my losses was so early (5w), it was the "heavy period" I hear about. The other two (7w), were painful but doable.

I read that most natural mc's have complications (which surprised me!), so I suppose I've been "fortunate" that my two went smoothly.

For mc#1, I was concerned about infection (my bleeding was smelly) and scheduled a D&C one week out. I started to mc the morning of my D&C and cuold not use pain killers since I was pre-op. I was able to walk off the worst of the cramps: pain 6 out of 10. The OB said the D&C was easy because my cervix was dilated and most POC had passed. My HCG was down to 0 when tested two weeks later.

For mc#2 (7w4d). The mc was six hours of cramping - I took 600 mg Ibu - and then 45 minutes of hard labor - on the bathroom floor huffing and puffing. The last contraction was a doozy! Its pain was a 9 out of 10. I was thrilled that I had successfully delivered, albeit an irresdescent blob. My HCG was down to 0 when tested two weeks later.

I wish you a full and speedy physical recovery.

Hugs,
~S

TTC - I am sorry for your losses as well. It's a common connection around here unfortunately.

I was really undecided about the D&C and then started doing a lot reading on it naturally. The risks are higher with doing it naturally and the majority of the women end up in an ER. This is not to say that there also aren't any risks with the proceedure either. For me, the proceedure risks are lower than the natural risks.

Nothing has started happening naturally. I'm hoping it doesn't but if it does, well its just something I'll have to live through I suppose. Not much can be done about it.

I am lucky that the facility that we are using has a seperate area for women in my situation and we are not in with any pregnant women there for proceedures. I'm grateful for to be knocked out quite frankly.

So the wait continues.

Thank you to all of you ladies for your love and support!

Kristin
