After 6.5 yrs and giving up! Surprise! I'm terrified...

    Hi everyone,

My husband and I started ttc over 6 years ago... We had 2 really early miscarriages in that first year (like I got a pos hpt and with in a day or 2 started bleeding) idk if they were really considered miscarriages or more chemical pregnancies but at any rate it sucked... About 5 years ago we started infertility treatments and after a whole year of back to back cycles of iui and one IVF... I couldn't take anymore, I was done... I got real depressed but after a while we decided we would just not prevent and move forward with pursuing adoption... Well fast forward to now we have been waiting to adopt for 3 years! And have had 2 failed adoptions. Our adoption social worker is actually coming this evening to update all our paperwork for another year! And yesterday, after my husband badgered me for a few days I broke down and took an hpt, because Im about 2.5 weeks late... I didn't want to take one because we all knew what it would say... Right? Well, I was very wrong! Lol before I even pulled the stick out of the pee it was dark dark +!!!!!!! and I didn't believe it so I did another and it was the same... So I did another, same thing happened! 3 super dark immediately pos. HPTs !!!! I have my first doc appt. Next wednesday... But I seriously can't believe this! How could it just happen when we fought for so long? I'm also a nervous wreck and would like to pretty much take a test every time i pee just to make sure I'm not imagining things LOL
*sigh* anybody else try for a long time before giving up and getting preg?

    Hi there,
Congrats!! I can definitely relate to you. My dh and I were trying for over 4 years - 1 year naturally with nothing, 2 iui's, 4 fresh ivf cycles before we'd had enough. Yes there were a few chemical pregnancies in there and other early losses but I was done. We were then well down the road to adoption and had been matched with a little girl in China. Much to my surprise, I learned in April that I was pregnant, naturally. I was scared to death that something would happen (and still am super nervous), but I am now 23 weeks and all is good. So it definitely can happen even after you completely give up.

Thanks ladies! I'm sure I'll feel better once I see my doc did any of you have ultrasounds at your first appt? The receptionist told they do them sometimes and sometimes they have you wait til 10/11 weeks... I think if I have to wait that long I'll go crazy LOL

Congratulations bean! There are some really amazing stories on here, one woman who tried for something like 15 years, had long since quit trying, and then a random healthy BFP. There seems to be nothing to it but the luck of numbers after awhile!

If they don't want to do one insist that you'll pay for it out of pocket if your insurance won't cover it. They probably won't have a problem with that.

    Hi Bean,
By the time I realized I was pregnant from the hpt, my beta came back at 50,000 or something like that. So the RE (I went to see my RE even though it was natural, just cause I knew they would do u/s etc.) called me and said come in tomorrow for an u/s. At that u/s they showed me the heartbeat and played it for me and it was totally surreal. Good luck and let us know how it goes! Here in Canada it is different though with healthcare and we don't pay anything for u/s etc. so i'm not sure how it would work in the US.

Wow 50,000! holy cow! I don't know if they will do a beta blood test on me or not... She said usually when u get such a strong quick hpt they don't do one unless there is a problem cuz there's no need...

Nd thanks for the tip! If they say they aren't doing an us, I'll ask if its cuz if the insurance and if so... We will just pay for one I just want to know baby is viable and in the right place... Then maybe I can relax a little bit...

    Bean,
If you are 2.5 weeks late, your beta would be up there too. I got the + on hpt at 6.5 weeks preggo and went in the next day. In hindsight it was nice before I found out as unlike after a fertility treatment, there was no 2ww to test and then no 2ww again for the u/s to look for a heartbeat. I would push for an u/s for sure if I were you. You should likely be able to see the heartbeat by now and that is a huge step. The RE knew I was super nervous after everything I had been through, so I went weekly for u/s between 7 and 11 weeks and then switched to an OB.

I am so excited for you!!! Can't wait to hear how your appointment goes

Oh wow! That is so cool! yeah I hope I can get one too but if not I guess I'll survive lol I will push for it though... And it is so different from when we did all of our IF treatments and how much testing was done and such, and then this is just like so relaxed lol I couldn't believe when I called yesterday they didn't want to see me right away LOL

Oh and something else that's funny... I'm in such shock! So the intake nurse from the doc office called this morning to ask me a bunch of family history questions and such and at the end of the call she asked what the name of the baby's father was? I totally Answered with, "HUH? What baby?" she laughed and was like ummm yours! It was bizarre... I told my husband and he goes Ooooo weird... ROFL this.is.crazy.
