Hey girls!

This time I started an "April 2009" thread for us, instead of doing a weekly thread.

I figured with us all getting so close, it would make sense to just keep this thread going until everyone has their babies.

Hi Ladies,

I thought I'd just drop in to give an update on the Twin's first week of life. The c-section went well. There was a half hour hold up waiting for lab results from a blood test that accidentally got tossed from pre-admission testing. So I was sitting with a catheter in a little longer than expected nervous as heck waiting for the surgery to start. The surgery itself was very fast. I did toss my cookies once and they told me right before they started (while I was on the table) that 95% of women do that. I think its because of them pushing on your stomach to take the baby (babies) out.

Caroline and Matthew are small but healthy. DH cut the cords and brought them over to see me while they were sewing me up. Then the babies went to the nursery and I went to recovery. I was stuck in recovery for 4 hours waiting for the spinal to wear off (couldn't leave till I could move my feet). DH kept going to check on the twins in the nursery. They were ready to go to my room after 2 hours but DH left them in the nursery till I was ready. Didn't feel it would be right for our family to hold the babies before I could.

The family was a little overwhelming (9 people jammed in my hospital room) and they got there before they wheeled my babies in to see me. I was in the hospital from Thurs (3/26) till Monday (3/30). DH stayed over with me 2 nights. The nursery was great. I started breast feeding both and it went well in the hospital. I did have to supplement with formula once we got home as I don't have enough milk for 2 yet (plenty for one though). DD is a little confused with the breast and the bottle and prefers the easy way of the bottle. DS is great and takes anything. He never turns down the breast. I'm pumping 3 times a day on top of feedings to bring in more work.

We had our first pediatrician visit on Wed and ran into a little bump. The kids looked a little jaundiced and the doctor wanted us to go to the hospital lab to get their levels checked (they had done that every day in the hospital and they always came up low risk). I asked the doc where to go in the hospital and she said "go to the ER and ask them to direct you to the lab." When we go there I was on the phone with another doctor about an u/s for DS and DH went up to the ER admission desk and the mis-communication started. Somehow we were admitted to the ER and had to spend 5 hours to find out the kids were still low risk. But in the mean time extra tests were ordered and instead of a heal stick, they inserted a line in their arms. I was crying watching them do that to my little babies. It all turned out ok but was traumatizing.

Life at home is interesting. I'm exhausted. The twins sleep all day and are up all night! DS is a dream though, he only cries when he's hungry. DD on the other hand wants to be held all night. Can't wait to switch their nights and days. They sleep so nicely all day. DS is awake at night too but he just looks around in amazement at the world and quietly examines his hands and anything else he sees. Its fun to watch him. DD would be fine if we could just sleep. We love holding her, we just want to sleep at times.

Family has bee a big help and we found at night its very helpful to have 3 people there so someone gets to sleep. We take shifts.

That's all for now. Sorry for the long post. It takes a while to get online these days.

Sue - Thanks for the update! I am glad everyone is doing great and love to hear you describe their personalities already! Look forward to hearing more! Pics too???

How is everyone else??? Here is to more babies this week!

AFM- I have had cramping off and on all week. Getting to be quite miserable at this point. He is kicking the crap out of my bowels, inducing intestional/rectal spasms that I have had in the past , it just feels like everything seizes up down there. Getting kind of pissy, been trying to keep a good attitude and enjoy the time I have left before the baby, some days it is easier than others. Dr appt. tomorrow, hopefully there will be more progress Not trying to complain, just TIRED...

Sue- thanks for the update. It is amazing all that you have been through in 1 week already. It is neat to see how different they are so early on too. I hope things continue to go well and you still get the help you need.

Trish- Good luck at your appt tomorrow. I hope you have progress too.

AFM- 2 more days to go and it can't get here soon enough.

Sue - what a great story - thanks so much for sharing. It's intersting to see how the personalities are established so early!

Nik - thanks for starting the new thread

I'm pretty cranky too. I'm not sleeping well and it seems that there is still so much more to do to get the nursery together. I know i'm just being paranoid - everything will be fine. i have my first appt where they check on your dilation status tomorrow. Oh, and i had ANOTHER ultrasound on Friday. She has hair and they said she's 6 pounds 12 ounces at 37w3d which puts her at 47th percentile. (of course, give or take a pound). We'll see where she ends up.

OK - more running around to do. Hope you all have a good week.

Hi Ladies!

Nik- thanks for starting the thread once again. Good idea about keeping it up for the month.

Sue- wow- what a story. Sorry about the ER mix-up....how crazy! Sounds like you've got lots of help though so that's great. Hopefully those babies learn their nights from days soon!

Kerry- You've got a nice-sized baby in there...with hair!

Peanut- Good luck tomorrow!!!

Trish- Hope you see some progress at today's appt and you feel a little better.

Loren- good luck with all those BH...hopefully they're a sign that labor is imminent.

I'm 37 weeks/1 day. You guys will all have babies by the time mine arrives!
We got a lot accomplished this weekend. The nursery is finally almost all set with the exception of the crib which is being delivered on Friday. Everything is washed and folded and put away. I really am beginning to feel "ready." Still haven't packed a bag yet.

I have my weekly appt and another u/s this Wed.

Have any of you put a towel or something down on your bed in case your water breaks?

Shannon - good luck!! Can't wait to hear all the happy details!

sue - good to hear from you. Lots of positive things going on - hopefully the bumps have smoothed out for the most part. DD will get better & better at BF...she'll get the hang of it Hoping they start transitioning to night time sleeping!!

nik - glad that you're off work now. you deserve some time to relax before Grant comes. sorry you were denied a c-section.

AFM - just hanging in there. 38w4d and feeling it. DH bought me a few books yesterday, so I can read at night when I'm wide awake. Guess it'll be my last bit of leisure reading for a while! OB appt tomorrow, but I'm not expecting much...haven't felt a darn thing all week!
Hang in there everyone!
Heather
