Drop in Progesterone? Insight please!!

Hi ladies - I am looking for y'alls expert advice

I am 8w5d today and I have "graduated" from my RE to OB/GYN, although, I don't get to see the OB for another week or so. Anyhow, at my last RE appt they tested my progesterone before taking me off the prog supps. The level was 35. They said this was fine, to go every other day for a week and then stop completely. HOWEVER, when I was flipping back through my calendar, I noticed that when I got my 1st beta my prog was actually 45.

So, now I am concerned: is this kind-of drop normal? Maybe I shouldn't cut back until I am under my OB's care? What should I do?

(I did call the nurse back and she was NO help, she basically said if I was worried to just have my OB check when I saw her).

I'm no sure why you would have a drop in progesterone, but I know that if you have a level of at least 20 then you are okay. If you are taking any kind of progesterone, I doubt it would go below that 20. I think it would be okay to keep taking the normal dose of progesterone until you visit your OB if you want to be sure. I understand that the placenta doesn't take over with progesterone until 10-12 weeks. I was told to stop mine (prometrium vaginally) at 10 weeks, but I am still taking some. I didn't want to quit cold turkey, so I'm trying to ween myself off of it.

Good luck.

prev m/c briefly ment

Over the course of the first several weeks, my progesterone was only ever in the high teens, low 20s up until my last RE visit at 8w4d. I was on 1cc PIO/daily. RE said my levels were fine and to stop the PIO cold turkey. I was nervous about just stopping altogether since I have a history of low progesterone with my m/c's...so my RE let me go on 200mg prometrium suppositories 3x/day through the end of the first trimester. So that's what I did just for peace of mind I guess. OB never rechecked my progesterone and said the prometrium wouldn't hurt. And all is good today.

Mine fluctuated until about week 9 or so -- then it climbed steadily as the placenta took over making the progesterone.

Thanks for the responses lately. Unfortunately, I am now more freaked out than ever. My RE said that since my prog was 35 last week, to start cutting back to every other day. I did, and yesterday it was only 18!! Now I am back on the supps, but I can't stop thinking that this means something very bad. (I did have an u/s yesterday that showed a 9w1d - I'm 9w2d- little bean, moving around w/ a HB of 174). I want to be excited, but everything I read says low prog = bad things....
