We have experienced some cut back in our hours. Dh's job is only doing 4day work weeks. Loosing aprox. $400 a month. OUch!
They have layed off over 100 people and there is another layoff coming. Dh is 8th from the bottom. So 7 have to get layed of b4 him. Scarey!! |

My DH and I are both still working regular hours. Dh has actually gotten busier b/c instead of buying new computers, people seem to be getting them fixed.
I process medical claims and there never seems to be a shortage of people being sick. On the homefront, having major issues with credit cards raising interest rates (never been late, etc), have oil heat which is outrageous (NE PA winters), electricity, internet, cable has all gone up, everything going up, except our paychecks. Health insurance- work just raised our rates another $87/month for a whopping $545.86/month for just me! (looking for alternatives now) I live in what would be considered a poorer area from those folks in other parts of the country. Example- The house across the street is going for $52,000. Sure there are more expensive houses around here just not in my town. Big factories have been shut down and sent overseas or just plain went bankrupt. Major unemployment numbers in the news everyday. I dont really like my job but grateful to have one. ETA- A 'great' paying job around here is like $12/hr and you have work up to that.

I'm at a non-profit making peanut wages already, and we're going to probably furlough hours for all staff beginning in our new fiscal year (June, 09) and have the management team take salary cuts (that's me). DH is with Homeland Security, and all OT and pay raises (scheduled ones!) have been eliminated. He's barely above minimum now... but we're lucky. He was with Cisco Systems at 3x the salary, and they have already laid off all the Project Managers in his team, so he would be unemployed had he not seen the writing on the wall and bailed a year ago.
Homes where we are still average over a million (Bay Area), and under $500K are one-bedroom condos in not-so-nice parts of town. We rent a 100 year old home with crappy heat and leaky faucets for $2500 a month. Sucks to be anywhere right now! |

Wow. It is amazing how different home prices are in the united states.
Where I live $500,000 would probably get you a 4,000 sf home with 30-50 acres.

I voted we are doing fine but really due to DH being an Officer in the Army, we have a steady paycheck and he is in Iraq now so we get paid extra while he is away.
Dave I am in Hattiesburg MS and my house is 3500sq ft on a lake with lots of extras and I am selling for 210,000 so you are right houses are cheap here ![]() Rhonda

It hasn't affected us at all yet. In January DH actually got a new job making around 10,000 more a year. We got a lot of money back from filing our taxes and were able to buy a very much needed Minivan. I hope that things remain this way.
