How was Christmas this year for your 05-er?

Hi All,

Like Shanni I've been MIA from this BB due to the all consuming nature of having a new one in the house. Still can't quite believe that there are two children in my home and I keep waiting for their parents to pick them up at the end of the day after playing with their Aunt.

Sam really understood so much more about Christmas this year. We finished the night Christmas Eve with putting out milk, biscuits and carrots for the reindeer. He kept saying "man, come here?" He then proceeded to visit our room from 2:30 onward, not sick, or upset, just checking in with us, then going back to bed. Despite mine and then DH's efforts to get him to sleep this went on until 5:30 when he finally fell asleep. He had no interest in checking out the tree or to see if presents arrived, it was all quite strange.

In thinking about it, DH and I both think that he was probably confused by us welcoming a man to our home, late at night, who would only come if he was asleep. (DH threw that one out when Sam wouldn't go to sleep at around
9:00 p.m.) Got to love the toddler mind---why would we welcome an intruder?

Christmas Day was wonderful but by the time dinner came around and our house was still full of guests he was in full tornado mode. We finally got him down around 11:00 p.m., by this time he was both wired and exhausted. I think we'll definitely try to be more protective of his schedule next year, the whole lack of sleep, schedule and normality has caused some epic meltdowns and big dramas.

How did Christmas with it's attendant hullabaloo work out for you guys? Any suggestions you want to share would be appreciated too

MY 05'er (love that term!!!) loved Christmas!!!

He watched Polar Express maybe 20 times??? I don't know he just got hooked on the movie. He did see Santa a few weeks earlier and cried but we managed a picture when he calmed down. A big man in a red suit can be scarey to our toddlers. Then Christmas Eve Santa knocked on our door. (surprise visit) 2.4 year old DS was shy and behind our legs but at least not crying. He did manage to tell Santa at our house what he wanted: vacuum, power tools, crocs, and boots. At the end of the visit DS 2.4 year old DS said "Santa you wanna watch Polar Express?" I just about died laughing. I told DS the Polar Express comes to Santa ALL the time!!!! The older DS who is 7 said he wanted a motorized inflatable Hovercraft pool boat, an air hockey table, and one other thing he said forgot. DS told Santa "I can't remember, but you have my list so you know!" LOL!

Tess loves to say, "Ho, Ho, Ho! Merry Christmas!" My 6 yo taught her that. She is singing Christmas songs and really enjoying the season. She understands about baby Jesus now, so that's wonderful. About three days before Christmas she started saying, "Santa, home, presents." So she got that part too. There is now greater joy than watching your children at Christmas. I love being a mom!

Well lets just say it was interesting. The whole saga is in my blog if you care to read. Long story short we were in NJ and all got the stomach flu. It was no fun

When we got back home, we had 'santa' come the next morning. Brian doesn't totally get the santa thing but he loved the new toys. The kitchen was the biggest hit. I think DH was a bit disappointed that he liked the kitchen more than the dump truck.

OMG! Polar Express! My son watched it countless times this past month. He's obsessed with trains, so a whole movie set on a train.....Anyway, my son, really enjoyed the present part of Christmas and all the decorations. My only comlaint was that my in laws do Christmas Eve so late, that we didn't get to bed until 11:30. DS still got up regular time, and was thus cranky for us all of Christmas Day. So, a bit disenchanting, but still nice. It took us hours to open presents because he wanted to play with everything as he opened. So, we just followed his lead since he was the cranky one.

Veronica-uggghh! about the stomach flu! Really hoping to avoid that one this year!
