One of my kids drew the name of a little boy with what I'll call "autistic tendencies" (he hasn't been formally diagnosed yet, but goes in for an evaluation in the next couple of weeks) for our christmas gift exchange. Does anyone have any ideas of a good gift, or where I might look for some gift ideas?

Not sure how old he is but it might be worth seeing what the child is really interested in. As a mom of a child with autism, they tend to lean towards a particular type of toy or activity.
I found the south paw website good as my son has sensory issues too.
Lakeshore is always good as there is something that will interest anychild there.
Sorry for being so vague, but without knowing the child it is hard to tell

Cassie...like Sally said...it's so hard to say without knowing the child. Some of them like sensory stuff, some don't, some are fixated with certain toys/acitivities, some aren't. My friends son (7yo) rotates...for a while all he wanted to do was "work" on stuff (take things apart), now he is into locks & keys and doesn't give a hoot about working on stuff. But he is also into little boy stuff too...he loves "Cars" characters, etc. Is there anyway to talk to the parents and ask them for suggestions?

i know one little autistic boy and he LOVES basketball! if i drew his name i know i'd buy him a ball and goal. but...for someone i didn't know...that'd be hard. i'd definitely ask the parents or someone close to him.

I was going to suggest some of the sites that Sally had recmmended. You could also check out the link on the TRU homepage for the Differently Abled Toy Guide. Might be useful...

P.s. Have you hugged your thyroid today?
Find it early. Know the signs. Ask for a neck check the next time you see your doctor.
