No-Nap excuse # 999,999.00...
"Momma, I can't lie down because my animals are all there." Miss Laine
She layed her stuffed animals across her pillow and did not leave room for herself. She really thought I would think that was a good reason to let her get up without sleeping at all? She underestimates my determination to keep naps a part of our lives. She and Kait are up there moving from one bed to the other and talking up a storm. They alternate between giggle fits and getting mad at each other for hogging the bed.
In all seriousness, all the signs that I have been seeing over the past few weeks lead me to believe my girls are phasing out their naps. When they can make it happily through their day, until bed time, without a nap, then I will be on board with that. But honestly, twins in an overtired state by 5 or 6pm who alternate between crazy hyper and downright grumpy are a liability to my sanity!!

A letter to my children regarding your multiple request to give up naps:
Dear Kaitlin and Laine,
Your Mommy would love to let you get out of your beds right now so we can play with your new train set. However, if I do you will only be overtired and grumpy within the hour. Close your eyes and rest- even if just for a short while. You still need your nap. I know you do not believe me, but you do. You are little and growing and that takes lots of energy. So please, please listen to me and go to sleep.
Your request has been rejected. Per our household policy, you may revisit this topic with me after your next birthday. I may say no again if you are not ready, but you are welcome to ask when you turn 3. You may not appeal my decision. I know best.
Love,
Mom
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have to go get them in 15 min because if they sleep after 4pm they will not be ready for bed until about 9pm. I am going to be sooo sad when the naps go. Although, I guess if I look on the bright side it will give us a lot more flexibility in our daily routine if there is no afternoon nap. I guess.
Anyone else lost the nap battle yet?

LOL!! I love this!!
I really thought we were done with a naps a few weeks ago. We went Tuesday-Sunday with no nap and I was convinced there were done. I was no where near happy about that, but figured it was just time and I should stop fighting and getting myself worked up over such a silly thing. Then, I talked to my mom and she just told me over and over how sad she was that the naps were done because they really need it for their growth and health. Since mom *usually* knows best, I decided to really start trying agian... That Monday, NO PROBLEM!!! They laid down and conked right out! I was leary that it was only a fluke and we'd be back to no-nap-land in no time, but so far, so good...I really hope I didn't just jinx myself!!
I'm with you on this one...maybe after they turn 3, but I'm thinking they may need it more then than ever since I'm hoping they can start preschool at sometime... Keep the fight mommy!!! Good luck!

Oh boy, I hope your girls aren't done naps. I love when they nap b/c that means that I get to take one too
Since they nap only on the weekends at home now, they still go down for me very easily and take at least a 3 hour nap. At daycare during the week it's only for about an hour to 1-1/2 hrs. I bet they will start giving up their daycare naps, which may mean no naps at home either. I am so not ready to go to no naps!!! My two need them or they are really cranky by 6pm...

It is really a struggle between 2.5 and 3-3.5, IMO, esp with twins who are out of cribs. They just cannot see the point of napping and really FIGHT it! I have noticed that R is harder to get to sleep for both nap and bedtime the last month or so, and is napping a bit shorter...used to be able to set your watch....2 hours on the dot most days....but now 1.5 alot of days.
It was worse with my twins. We finally let them stop at about 3yrs, 3 months (R was an infant, and it was just impossible to get the twins down and care for her, etc). We had alot of issues with them dozing off at 4-5 pm and then not waking up for dinner and not going to bed, etc. At about 3.5, they asked to nap again! They finally figured out what "tired" is, I think. They napped until almost 4.5......I'm hoping for at least another year, 3.5 with R. I will admit though, when they give up naps, bedtime is truly a snap, and you do get some of that "me" time back in the evening somewhat. Just be consistent, if you let them stay up sometimes they will REALLY fight it after that.Lois

too funny & cute!!! I hope they take your letter seriously!

Still napping here and not ready to give it up even if I have to lay with them to get them to sleep...at least they are napping!! Some days that is what I have to do, some days they go right down, but for now they still seem to want(need) them.
Good luck!
