Borrowed from another BB![]()
I've had a couple of them; one was as "the Problem Lady" for a well known tour company that specialized in the 18-25 age group. (I think they are now for 18-35) I was working in Australia and it was one of those see the country in 30 days kind of deals. They were known for their partying approach to travelling and I'd field the calls like one from a hotel owner who had a pool full of broken beer bottles. I'd apologize, call a local pool cleaning company and send something like a fruit basket.
Every day was completely different; complaints, reports of clothing left behind, even women calling 9 months after their trip and wondering if we could help them reach _________ regarding "a big suprise". We had one tour leader who had at least 3 calls from women with "big suprises"![]()

. I worked with a good crowd and coupled with the occasional travel to do damage control, it was interesting. Looking back on it, I had no training, no guidelines, no real budget, was just supposed to sort of manage the problems and work them out. The bus drivers were often partying hard so it's a miracle no one was seriously hurt.
Love to hear about other's experiences

OK, Sinead wins already!

Oh, so many of my jobs have been strange.
Supervising the "scares" at a giant haunted house at MSG (it was actually called "Madison SCARE Garden")
Chasing around a guy in a dog suit while on the road with Scooby Doo Live! (His tail fell off once. . .in the audience. . .
)
Packing boxes for mail order at LL Bean. (Christmas job)
Countless waitress, grocery checkout, drugstore clerk jobs to get myself through college.

Yep....I think Sinead wins so far. Most of my jobs have been boring but I have 2 strange ones.
Let's see...I worked in a chicken processing plant preparing chickens for KFC. The worst part was when you had to go to the "eviceration area" and make sure all the "inards" were removed from the chicken. :yuck:
Also with the same company I worked night shift for 6 years in a rendering plant as a control room operator. For those that do not know what a rendering plant is....you take all the leftover parts from the chicken (guts, feathers, feet, blood, etc) and process them (cook em' up)and they get turned back into stuff for dog food and chicken food. Basically I operated this big panel that control this HUGE cooker that "cooked" the guts. At first the stench was horendous, but as with everything else in life, you eventually get used to it.

OMG! Tami! You win for the bravest soul to ever go to work! Shiver, shudder, yuck! That is one job I could not do!! I would be holding my stomach and pale as a ghost. You are a brave woman!
I am cracking up reading about the strange jobs. Scooby lost his tail?? hee hee. Polishing eggs? That sounds interesting.
I guess I am boring. My jobs just were never strange, but I am sure I make up for it by being strange myself..lol..that's all I got!ValleyCat

Tami, ugh, I am putting back the chicken I just pulled out of the freezer to defrost for tonight.
Suzie, what did you do with the disconnected tail? Bet there was some great questions from the kids who witnessed that!“Children don’t belong to us. Okay - so Blondie has the job I'd be most interesting in trying!
Sinead has the biggest crack-up!
Can you disclose which movies they were so I can see????
And Tammy has the grossest!
When I was in the 9th grade we had to dissect baby pigs - I haven't eaten pork since. If I had to work in that chicken plant. . . . well, I'd be really think from all the vomitting!
I haven't had any real strange jobs - waitress, concession stand at a movie theatre, cosmetologist, financial analyst. . . . those are all the jobs I've ever done! Now, I've come across some really strange people doing these jobs!!!
I remember once when I was doing hair and this client asked me out - clean cut, good-looking, military guy who was new in town. He flirted with me the whole time I cut his hair - said he had a thing for fiery red-heads (which I was that day!). We went out and were just driving around, and he took his pants off in my car!
Okay, beyond strange - that was scary! I never saw him again!

Sinead ~ Hooker in movies?!?! Wow, you go girl...lol What movies were they?
Tammy ~ Yuck is right! that is a very strange job buy hey now I know what happens to the leftover chicken parts..lol You educated me on that one
I have not had any strange jobs. I worked in a movie theatre selling popcorn, as a cashier in a drug store, I worked for about a year in a clothing store as a sales girl and my last job I worked 15 years for my parents construction company as the Executive Secretary/Office Manager/Payroll manager/assistant to the president. I did just about everything you can do in the office...lol See? Not very strange at all. Kinda boring compared to others!Kari

Some strange jobs you have ladies but I think I may be able to beat Tammy in the grossest category.
While in University, I did a grant job for the medical research labs. I worked with a Dr. testing a new drug for strokes. I had to take blood pressure from rats ( gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it now). How does one get a blood pressure reading from a rat you may wonder? Well, I would take them into a very warm room (stinking warm) and wait for their temps to rise. I would go into the room and pick up a rat and put them in a cylinder sleeve at which point they would $*it all over themselves and my hand
. Then I would put a small cuff around the poopy tail and take the measurement. Needless to say, the rats did not like this and would fight to get out of my hands. I would do OK until one of them jumped out and onto the floor, then I would run from the room like a little girl to find someone to catch the rat for me. So.....warm room + rats + poop= disgusting and strange job. I did enjoy the job by the end of the semester and chalked it up to a good story to tell.
