OK...hand me the bad mommy award

    I deserve it.

I was giving the kids their bath last night, and they always play first, then we wash and rinse, then they stand in the tub while I spray them with the shower hose. They love it, and love for me to spray them while they are trying to drink the water from the spray. Caleb was standing at the front of the tub where the faucet was, and Abigail was in the back. I was spraying her, and I turned to spray Caleb's belly, and he started jumping and crying and trying to get away from the water and I thought..what in the world? So I quickly looked at the spigot where you adjust the temp, and he had turned it all the way over to HOT. I quickly turned it away from him, flipped it over all the way to COLD and then started spraying him with cold water to relieve the burning. I was so terrified that I had burned him badly. My heart was pounding and I kept spraying him and he was crying and crying. I finally got him out (DH got Abigail) and held him tight for a few minutes until he settled down, and then I looked. Thank God it was only a little tiny bit pink where I sprayed him, and it faded away too. He was up in a few minutes running around, but I won't forget about it that easily.

I made DH go in and turn the water down more. I don't care if I have to take a cold shower, as long as they don't get scalded.

So, reminder, if you haven't turned your water temp down, now might be a good time. I'm also thinking about getting some kind of thing that would cover the temp/water spigot so they can't do that again.

Oh Tammy, you are not a bad mommy! It was an accident. It happens for no reason.

Good reminder on the water temp. DH ran a bath for the kids the other night...it happened to be a night that I was bathing Tanner before Kenzie got in and although he adjusted the temperature coming out, it got hotter as it filled. I didn't even think to check the water and plunked Tanner right in. He stood up and SCREAMED and was trying to get his feet out of the water. It took me a second to realize that the water was hot. I felt it and it was on the hot side! I felt terrible and DH felt even worse. It did not scald him because we have the water temp turned down, but it felt almost like there was no cold water on!

    Tammy!!!!! Glad Caleb is okay!

Oh wow! You are NOT a bad Mommy! You know and he knows of course you would never mean to ever do something like that!!!!!! I think they sell something that indicates hot/cold/warm that can be put on the faucet. I will have to ask my DH because I swear he mentioned that to me before because last winter I was filling up the tub and I didn't know the water was so HOT. Thankfully, I stuck my hand in the water before putting the kids in - the water was SUPER HOT. I quickly ran cold water to cool it off.

We keep our hot water heater at a certain temp just for that reason now.

    Glad little Caleb is okay!

You are not a bad mommy. There is a reason why DH NEVER gets D's bath ready. The water is always too hot when he starts the bath. I have done it to Dana too and she was o.k (thank god). Here is a huge . Gald that Caleb is o.k.

I'm sorry that happened, but it was an accident. You are definitely not a bad mommy!! Good reminder to make sure our water heaters are turned down. I know ours isn't turned down enough, and J loves to play with the faucet in the tub.

As others have pointed out, it's an easy mistake to make and I'm sure Caleb isn't holding it against you!! It stinks that our 'gentle reminders' comes in forms such as these! I'm so glad he's okay!! And be easy on yourself - you are so NOT a bad mommy!
