Yesterday was Caiden's appt with the allergist and it was difficult trying to keep him occupied during the 2 hour appt. The results of the testing that we did yesterday showed that he is severely allergic to cats, dogs and dust mites. He also has a mild allergy to mold. We had him tested because we suspected a milk protein allergy and he is only mildly allergic to milk but has a moderate peanut allergy. He still needs to have bloodwork drawn to see what the levels are for milk and peanuts and when we go back in June I need to have him tested for at least eggs, tomatoes and tree nuts. She also felt that all his episodes of croup were more an allergic croup/response as opposed to a viral illness. He is now on flovent 2x/day and we have an epipen in case he has a bad reaction to something with peanuts in it.

I agree...so many of our littles are allergic to so many things. I hate that they all have to get pricked and prodded, but am glad you're getting some answers.
Very interesting about the croup. Can you tell me more about it? Does he get the croupy cough after eating certain things or is it more related to the dust mites? I ask because Gavin has croup so often and yet the ped says his chest and nose are clear. (We're on our way into the ped for this again in an hour.) I do wonder if it's related to something else.

Beth, I'm so sorry Caiden is also undergoing allergy testing. It is hard to see them suffer through the testing, but hopefully it will give results that can be used to help him.

I am also interested in hearing about the croup. What kind of a cough is croup? I have no experience with it, but now I am wondering if R has it?? Is it a dry cough? Any particular time of day?
Ivory, R also has clear chest and sinuses, but continues the daytime cough. The antibiotics are not working at all. (second round, different meds) Please let me know what your dr says about G, OK?

Caiden has had about 9 episodes of croup since he was 6 months old. He wakes up from either his nap or in he middle of the night with a very barky cough (he sort of sounds like a seal for lack of a better description) The allergist felt it was related more to allergies than viral because he usually does not have any viral symptoms with it - ie: no fever, runny nose etc. I am guessing it is from the dust mites or the cat.

Thanks, Beth. R's is more like a deep bronchial (sp?) cough.

It's Advair. It does seem to be helping his night time cough, but since he started it, his daytime cough has gotten worse.
