Need Advice (preg mentioned)
Hello,
So I come on this site often to read but I've never posted anything. Now it's time. On September 22 I took a positive HPT. First one ever. We've trying for three years with no luck. I've recently managed to lose 27lbs which I believe is what finally helped me. I am however, not on any medication for my PCOS. And everywhere I've read, it says I should be on Metformin to reduce the chances of miscarriage. I have doctors appointment on October 13 for a prenatal interview. Where the doctor will tell me if he can accept a patient with a due date in June. So from now until then, is there anything I should or should not be doing, eating or not eating... Any advice anyone can offer me will help me so much. I've been trying not to worry but I'm sure you all know how impossible that is. Thanks! Cassie

Hi Cassie,
Congrats on the weight loss and the BFP! It's very possible that your weight loss helped you start ovulating again. I understand your fears about miscarriage and not being on Metformin ~ I had the same concerns when my RE told me to stop taking my Metformin (I was 6 weeks pregnant). He told me that the research about Metformin/PCOS/miscarriage prevention wasn't conclusive and he didn't advocate his patients taking it while pregnant. Every OB has a different opinion on it so you should ask your doctor about it ~ if you don't want to wait until your prenatal appointment, you might want to call your family doctor and ask. My only hesitation with you starting Metformin while pregnant would be the side effects ~ stomach/gastrointestinal issues are a very common side effect of Metformin....those on top of morning sickness could be very unpleasant. Again, talk to your doctor and see what they think is best. As for what you should/shouldn't be eating and/or doing....definitely get started on a prenatal vitamin (if you aren't already taking one) and be sure to get good amounts of folic acid in your diet. Folic acid is found in foods like whole wheat bread and pasta, orange juice, pineapple juice, lentils, asparagus, spinach and some breakfast cereals. Above all, try to relax and not worry.....easier said than done I know. Keep us posted on how things are going and congrats again! |
