Metformin and BCP's (everything mentioned)

(sorry so long)
Hi ladies. I am hoping that someone out there can give me some insight on this. I am 29 yrs old and have PCOS with insulin resistance. I have a 6 yr old DD and twin DS's (almost 9 months). Back when i was about 20 i was on BCP's. I was SKINNY and had NO PCOS symptoms at all! I went off BCP's when i got married. After 8 months of no period, my OB/GYN "brought on" a cycle and gave me clomid. A few months later i got pg with DD. After delievring her i went for my 6wk post pardum and my OB told me that i seemed fine and could just go back on the pill. Well, i ended up needing gall bladder surgery, then we moved etc...etc... long story short, i didnt start the pill and didnt get a period. Thats when i saw a new dr. he dx me with PCOS and INS RES and started me on met. I told me me and DH were going to start tryong for #2 so no BCP's. Ok, well 3 years later i finally switch ob's again and get sent to an RE who "gets me pg" with the boys.

At my 6 wk check back in Jan i was put back on the pill but not on met. My ob wanted to just get me regulated first. (and to be honest i didnt push the met) Well, a few months ago i stopped the pill becasue of headaches. Then my gma died etc..etc..anyway here we are the boys are 9 months old, i am gaining weight like crazy and not getting any periods.

So, today i went to see my family practiotioner. He took a bunch of blood and gave me a scriot for met. I just took it with dinner. He also wants me on BCP but he has to wait for a HCG level to make sure that i am not pg first. Ok, so my main question is-

* is anyone on both met and BCP's?, is so, what BCP are you on? I am wondering if there is a "weight gain" issue because of the pill and i am kind of scared to go back on it. I know that met can induce ov so i know i need some form of birth control but i am hesistant to go back on something. I got on the scale at the dr today and i have gained 15 pounds since Jan!!!!!!!!! WHAT???!!!!! I am thinking it is the pill, but not 100% sure.

ANYONE have any similar experience or advice?
TIA ladies!

Even though DH has had a vasectomy, I still take BCPs along with the met. I used to get cycles on met alone, but they started getting further and further apart again until they no longer came so back to the pill I went. I am on Reclipsen which is a generic for Desogen. I find that my weight is actually better controlled when I am on the pill so I will probably be on BPCs as long as the doctor will let me.

Well.. here most of us are taking MET to get preg.. so most are not on BCPs.

I do not see why you couldnt be on both medications.

*child mentioned*

I have a 6 month old and I am on both Met (1500 mg/day) and BCPs. I am on Ortho-TriCyclen Low. I haven't had any issues with weight gain ~ in fact, I gain weight when I'm NOT on the pill. The only complaint I have is that I am never "in the mood" if you know what I mean. I never had a super-high drive but now it's non-existent. I'm not sure if it's because of the BCP but I'm going to talk to my doctor about it at my appointment in November.
