another Metformin question...
the previous post got me thinking...
my doctor had me take a glucose test to see how my body was handling sugar (I think thats what the test does...). Anyway, it came back fine - i.e. my body wasn't having trouble handling sugar. Is Metformin still useful?

I see.. its to help stop or prevent those little follies from becoming cysts.... and to regulate the ovaries and the differnt hormones that everything produces...
Its an off label use: For the adjunct treatment of patients with hyperinsulinemia secondary to polycystic ovary syndrome† (PCOS), including the treatment of infertility† in these patients: Oral dosage (regular-release tablets): Adult females: 500 mg PO three times per day. After roughly one month, 33% of females with PCOS will ovulate compared to 4% with placebo. When metformin is added to clomiphene therapy for PCOS with infertility, roughly 86% of patients ovulate in comparison to roughly 8% on clomiphene alone.[26676] Worldwide data of metformin use in PCOS to regulate menstrual cycles and decrease ovarian steroidogenesis are relatively extensive. Metformin-failure may occur in severely obese patients, so weight loss and dietary control are also recommended. |

started Metformin today...just waiting for all those lovely side effects I've heard about to kick in! I'm going to do a pill a day for 3 days, then 2 pills a day for 3 days, then go for 3 a day. Yikes! Not sure I'm starting at the best time, as I'm going away to a cottage next week, and it would really suck if I was having stomach/all the other issues while I'm up there...but I was feeling excited and wanted to start right away! haha

I only have issues when eating crap food... or too much oily foods. Watch chocolate too... I havent had too many problems. I take 1 pill at lunch and 2 with dinner. I cant do one in the AM or I wont be able to eat lunch... that seems to work well for me.
I think I started with 1 am and 1 pm and then added the 3rd after 2 days. |
