PCOS Questions (child ment)
Hi, I have a ?....
I have had pcos since highschool.Back then I would get my period 6 times per year, by college 3 times per year after I hit 25 ,i only menstruated when I took medroxyprogesteone. I also never ovulated.. In order to concieve my children I had mulitple IUI and IVFs. Now I take medroxy every 4 months to shed my lining. Last dose I took was april 09. Since then i have gotten my period april, may and now june.Is it possible to ovualte too, i thought once you have pcos you have it for life.. how is that possible to menstruate on my own? I was diagnosed with servere pcos years ago...Is there anyone out there who has had a similar situation... I am just finding this very odd... Any info would be great. thanks jodi

I have had my period sporadically on my own for years until October of 2007 which is when the last one came on it's own but I don't think I was ovulating and they have diagnosed me with annovulatory bleeding along with the PCOS. I started on Provera three months ago and on the second cycle we began Clomid. It made me ovulate which brought on the period without Provera. I am also taking Metformin so hopefully that will regulate me and I will have my cycles without the Clomid or Provera. Has anyone ever mentioned taking Metformin to you?

Yes - PCOS can be/do that. My cycles have been all over the place. When hormone levels change due to . . . whatever - your cycles can be affected (like actually have some like other women
). I don't know if you "o'd" during that time, sometimes it's built up lining - that's what makes PCOS so bad, you could have "o'd" but who knows for sure - the predictor kits are not always reliable for us to check. If you continue to have regular cycles then there is that chance.Metformin works for "some" and "many" it does not. Always worth a shot though. Tricia Me 37yrs. Dh 44 DX: PCOS 7yrs. no nat. miracle add Metformin, Clomid, Repronex, Lupron, & 2+yrs. = 7 IUI's, 2 OHSS, 1 MC after hb THEN finally 8th:Last Chance IUI 7/25/08 BFP EDD: 4/18/09. . .DOB: 1/28/09 6m3d after last IUI "2" 28wk Miracles |

Hi.
I don't come over to this board often, but I'm PCOS, and yes, it's for life, but I used to have really erratic cycles. Bled pretty much every day for a year, then nothing for another year. That kind of thing. Went on for years. Then I lost a significant amount of weight. _Really_ hard, but I stopped eating sugar. I started having monthly periods, and have been ever since. I'm now just above the "normal" weight range for my height. I kept my morning temps for probably 9 months or more and it looked like I might have been ovulating. Hard to know for sure, of course. If I slip up on the sugar or my weight goes up, the periods get a little less regular and I have to get my eating and weight back under control. The thing about PCOS is that you never know when you might ovulate. You can't trust your body to be dependable and predictable about these things! For me, PCOS is like getting stuck in the cycle, like a vinyl record with a skip in it and the needle can't move past that point to the next phase of the cycle. So, it felt like I was always in PMS. Couldn't move to the next phase. The trigger in my brain to make the next hormone be produced wouldn't get pushed. At least that's what it feels like. <shrug> Even now, I still "hang" in PMS and have trouble moving through it. My week of PMS migraines are horrible! -Essie |

My RE told me that PCOS can go into a sort of remission, usually if you can get to and maintain a healthy weight.. something that I haven't been able to achieve yet. I've also been told several times that Metformin and the like can help regulate you, but I haven't seen it work for me yet. But I've been either undergoing treatments, pregnant, or on birth control most of the time I've been taking it so there's no telling.
