got pcos and not diabetic?
I've had pcos for close to 10 years now. I know the research on pcos has changed since I was diagnosed. I know pcos and diabetes are suppose to go hand in hand. Even if you're not diabetic now, you are likely to be diabetic in the future. But as I mentioned earlier I'm going on 10 years and I'm still not diabetic (not even close) nor did I have gestational diabetes when I was pregnant. I did, and do, have high androgen levels, multiple cysts on both ovaries, and amenorrhea (no AF). When I'm off the pill, I get a gross amount of facial hair and acne and sometimes even dark spots and skin tags.
So here is what my latest dr told me. If I end up being diabetic within the next 10 years then I do have PCOS. If I don't then I got something else but they don't know what. huh??? I'm suppose to wait 10 years to find out if I have something now? I don't get it. I feel like I got pcos. I have pcos symptoms. So I just want to know, does anyone else here have pcos but not diabetic like me?

Hey there. I have PCOS but I am not diabetic or pre-diabetic. I was diagnosed a little over 4 years ago, although I suspected it about 5 years ago when I started all the IF stuff.
I was told that I do have a higher chance of becoming diabetic, but I might not if I try to watch my diet and exercise. Although I also had GD with my last pregnancy (very slight controlled with diet, since I saw a group of doctors there was some debate if I really had it.) |

I was diagnosed back in 1999. While I still am not diabetic, I am insulin resistant. I always pass fasting tests for diabetes, but I usually fail the 2 hour glucose tests. I take metformin daily and will be on it the rest of my life to hopefully keep diabetes away as long as possible.

I am 5 years PCOS and also not diabetic. I also pass the insulin Resistance test. (Although, given my mood swings revolving around food, I think I am insulin resistant.) Up until 2 years ago I did not have a weight problem (now almost 30lbs too high), so it may change for me.
My old dr didn't "do" meta, but new dr does. After IF treatments she plans to put me on it, my RE doesn't want me on it now. My 22yo cousin was dx last month, is on met, but also not diabetic. She does have major weight issues, and know she has been told to change her eating/exercise habits to try and get some of it off. I have never heard of diabetes being a sure sign of PCOS. interesting! |

I was DX with PCO when I was 14 and had cysts. I am now 31 and with the loss of AF when we started ttc #2 I went to my Dr. I have cystic acne even with 2 rounds of Accutane many years prior. All the symptoms of PCOS I have.. so we started Metformin to see if that will help at all. I am also trying to lose weight.
I am not diabetic. I did not have GD when preg, but had a hard time with the 1 hour test. |

I was diagnosed with PCOS 14 years ago. I have all the "classic symptoms" including skin tags, cystic acne, excess hair (facial and body), majorly cystic ovaries, issues with ovulation and infertility....and I am not diabetic, although it runs on both sides of my family, so I am at an increased risk of getting it regardless of having PCOS. I am insulin resistant so have been on Glucophage (Metformin) for the past 7-8 years and I had no issues passing the GTT test during either of my pregnancies.

thank you ladies for the replies. i knew what the dr told me didn't sound right. just seems like i get different info about pcos everytime i see a dr. my last re told me that just becuz an ultrasound showed i had multiple cysts on both ovaries doesn't mean i have pcos. ??? it gets harder and harder weed out the misinformation. it makes me wonder if the drs are wrong or if i'm just looking for a dr that will say what i want to hear, ya know.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 months ago through a blood test and I am not diabetic. My doctor just looked at my medical history and not having regular periods and she thought that I should get tested for it and sure enough I had it.

I know PCOS is really a symptom or a "warning" sign for Diabetes, but that's not always the case. My younger sister was diagnosed almost 10 years ago with PCOS and she has the pre-diabetes and needs to watch her carbs and sugars.
I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS and I do not have diabetes or pre-diabetes. I just took the 2 (or was it 3?) hour glucose test and passed with flying colors! Doctors were worried thhttp://tt.lilypie.com/YODVm4.pngat I had GD with my son, but ...I was bad LOL I ate chocolate milk and a chocolate chip chocolate muffin right before doing the test! They didn't tell me to fast or anything, I didn't think it was gonna be a sugar test. Woops! I did the long 3 hour one after that, and I was clear. Diabetes runs in my family too (both sides!), but I don't have it at all. PCOS and (Pre)Diabetes go hand in hand, but having PCOS does not automatically throw you into the same catergory. There are several different kinds out there, so don't worry so much.
