Bad Taste in My Mouth
Hi everyone... My dh and I have been ttc for about 4 yrs. Recently, I started seeing a new RE who put me on Metformin to help with my PCOS. I've been on it about a week and a half now. So far, I've been feeling okay...just a few boughts of bad nausea here and there. However, ever since I've been taking it, I've noticed that I always have a really bad taste in my mouth. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure if it's the meds or the nausea causing it, but I'm hoping it goes away soon...so gross!

Hi Junebugz-
I havent had the bad taste... but I did just want to welcome you to this board I have been on Met since about Sept. I still cant work my way up to the 2000mg they want you to take. I am currently stuck at 1500mg. My RE said it was fine. I dont have any nausea from the Met anymore... now it is from pg LOL!!! So that icky feeling will go away eventually! My new OB wanted me to switch to Glabyride (sp) but I declined. I didnt want to have to go through that whole adjustment stage again... especially since I am pg with twins... I need to eat... A LOT!!!! And nausea and eating dont go together!Again, sorry I am no help just wanted to say hi!!!!Chandrea |

Is it a metallic taste? I didn't have that side effect, but I remember reading that Metformin can cause a metallic taste in the pamplet the pharmacist gave me with the Met. Hope it goes away for you soon.

Thanks ladies! The taste is metallic at times...as long as I know that it's somewhat normal than my mind is eased. I'm SO ready for the nausea phase to pass with this stuff and to start to feeling "normal" again (whatever that means
)! I'm only taking 1000 mg a day right now...my RE said we'll see how this goes and maybe up the dose later on if needed.Chandrea...congrats on being pg with twins! That is so exciting! So are you still taking the met while pg? I didn't know how that would work. |

Hi everyone, I did 1500 for about 8-9 months when ttc#1 and have been on 2000 XR for about 13 months when ttc#2. Each time, I've had some metallic taste, plus lots of food tastes different, like it doesn't taste nearly as good as I remember it. Maybe because of the taste issue, I've gradually lost 25 pounds each time due to the glucophage, and I'm not a big person. I think the metallic taste is common, sorry you have to experience it, but I think it gets less obvious as you get used to it. Good luck!

That can be a side effect of metformin. I had it. I also felt very nauseous and had a lot of gastro side effects.. It takes awhile to get used to it and if the gastro is too bad you'll want to give up ( well at least I did) but don't, eventually the side effects lessen.
