Just Diagnosed - Seeking Info/Support

Hello,
I am very glad to have found this forum! I was just diagnosed with PCOS. I went off the pill about 6 months ago. I was very excited to get 3 normal periods but then everything just stopped and I haven't had one in 2 months. I had bloodwork and an ultrasound which led to the diagnosis.

I also have endometriosis and was taking the pill continuously per my doctor so I have no idea how long I've had this as I wouldn't have known if I was missing periods or not ovulating, etc.

My husband and I are TTC so obviously this is an issue. My doctor wants to see me if I don't have a period by Oct. 15 and she'll "force" me to have one. I'm not sure what my thoughts are on this. Yes, the medication will give me a period but it's not going to alleviate the underlying PCOS problem.

What kind of symptoms have you all experienced? I've definitely had some weight gain. What have you found are the best methods to lose weight when you have this disorder that's causing you to gain? I also am very tired all the time, have a very "full" feeling in my abdomen and VERY low libido. Are these all signs of PCOS? I haven't experienced any hair loss or excess growth of hair.

Have you found anything that helps? Medical or Holistic?

I would really appreciate any and all information you can provide. Thank you!
Amanda

I wanted to add in an additional question now that I've done a bit of research.

As I said in my original post, my doctor wants to give me hormones to "force" a period if I don't have one by 10/15. My thought at this point (and tell me if I'm thinking of this properly) is that if I don't get a period by 10/15, rather than having my doc give me hormones to "force" a period, wouldn't I be better off asking her to let me try something like Metformin which will in a way "naturally" help my body resolve the PCOS issue by helping me control my weight and by controlling the insulin? Sure, the hormones would make me get a period but it's not doing anything to help the underlying PCOS issue. I'm also not hot on the idea of taking hormones in general. Also, with something like Clomid, do you just take it to force one period and then stop and see what your body does on its own or do you take it continually? What if you get pregnant? Is it dangerous? I'm also a little worried about the twins (or more) possibility with Clomid.

RUSH to an Reproductive Endocrinologist! I'll post a very informative link that you can check out. I have PCOS and IR and am currently on metformin for it. That is treating the PCOS (so very improtant as it will eventually lead to diabetes if you have elevated insulin levels). I still dont ovulate with just metformin, but i have been having periods without the nasty provera or prometrium, which is a huge improvement!

PCOS INFO

Good luck on your journey. PCOS is tough!! I hope you have success real soon! ++++ thoughts!
