Pcos and EXTREMELY tired...

I was dx with pcos a few years ago, and i've been tired, but never this tired. I cant stand it, i want to sleep forever, but cant of course. I have a 10 1/2 month old so of course i'm running around, plus work and the house, but i've never been this tired. I could fall asleep in the middle of the day, all day, i'm just getting miserable.

Does anyone else have this problem?? If so, how to you get any energy?? (Other than drinking TONS of coffee!!) I need help with some energy QUICK!!

TIA
Levon

I am not sure if it has anything to do with PCOS, but I have always been a tired person. I require atleast 12 hrs of sleep to even feel rested when I get up in the morning and then I could still take a nap in the middle of the day. Honestly, I have not found anything that helps this. I mean when I get tired I feel like there are weights on my eyelids and I can not keep them open any longer. Used to happen all the time at work. Was very hard to get through normal 9 hr work day. I do have an appointment tomorrow with my RE and will ask him about this and see if he thinks it could be related to PCOS and what to do about it if anything. I will update when I get home. Good luck.

I'm like that too. I have a hard time getting up, but once I do, I'm usually ok if I keep moving. But, in the middle of the day or early evening, if I sit on the couch too long, I about pass out. I can't keep my eyes open for anything. Like you said, I have kids too (23mo twins), but I can't imagine this is what is totally knocking me out.
For some reason I want to say that I've heard other PCOS'ers complain about this too. Just a coincidence?? Not sure but I'd love to hear what Taylorbees RE says!!

Hello...

Well, I talked with my RE today about being so tired all the time. Basically what I got from him was that fatigue is for sure associated with PCOS. He stated that while it is not listed as on of the "common" or more know side effects it is still a problem with women who have PCOS. I asked about how to make it better and he really didn't have any significant answers. Maybe there is nothing out there that can help this because most with PCOS are more worried about the lack of ovulation or the acne or hair growth and that tends to be what they treat. Sorry that I couldn't help more in how to take care of the fatigue. I really wish that he had an answer on that. Maybe someone else can find a little more information on this than I did. Take care everyone.

Levon,

My RE has me on Actos for PCOS. It has also helped me feel less tired most days. Are you on any meds. for the PCOS?

I just started back on the Metformin last week. We are going to start TTC #2 in a few months. Its been so long since i've been on the Met that i cant remember if it helped with the sleepiness. Although, it seems the last few day i'm not as tired. I started taking some vitamins too so i'm not sure if thats helping, or if its just that my daughter has slept in her own bed the past few nights But, if anyone finds anything out, let us know! Thanks!

I am also extremely tired most days. Even after a full nights sleep I am ready for a nap at 3:30 or so, and I am not chasing any kids at home! (But I do chase 20 at work all day.) My RE said fatigue does go with PCOS, specifically with the way we process carbs, turning it to fat instead of energy. When I follow a lower carb diet, I do have a TON more energy, it is just so hard not to eat carbs.

I too am SOOO TIRED!!! I am a teacher and by the end of the day have no energy for myself. DH and I are TTC #1 and I wonder how I will ever have the energy to take care of a little one once I do hopefully have one! I have been on metformin for about one month and I actually feel like it is making my tiredness worse!!! AHHHHH! I am looking into natural hormone replacement. I've just started this journey and the natural method makes total sense. I'm reading an excellent book that discusses how hormones are related and can cause so many problems with our bodies!!!!! Good luck to all.

I was just dx with PCOS yesterday. I am tired all the time. I wake up feeling like I havent slept at all. Since I work at home and no little ones, I can take a 20 min nap if its really bad.

When RE was asking me about different things I have had or have, he never asked about being tired.

Well thats good to know. I will ask him about this on my next visit.
Thanks

Please ask to have your thyroid checked. It is not uncommon to have thyroid problems and that could cause your feeling tired.
