Question bout Metformin...

Hi,
well im finally taking some advice from some of you who posted on some of my other questions...im going to the dr. thursday to ask about taking Met for a while and stopping this clomid, this last month was my 4th month on clomid, 150mg, first 3months were 100mg, So im gonna see what the dr has to say about it, and hopefully i can do that for awhile...
but i have some questions about it:

Is there anything the dr has to test before putting you on met? (there was a whole list on some site i was looking at)

Will met make you have normal cycles?

What is the normal starting dose?

And what questions should i ask the dr, when i talk to him thursday about taking met instead?

im still seeing my obgyn for now, praying we can get new insurance sooner then later so i can see a re....its almost been a year of trying, 4months ago dx w/ pcos and been on clomid since then.

any advice is greatly appreciated!! ty

Hey there...

This is my second month on Gluco/Met. They started me on 500 mgs the first week and then increased it to 1000mgs. They usually do this due to gastro problems. The first week I did not really have any problems. The second (1000mgs) week I stayed sick to my stomach for about two weeks.... then it got better. I am currently up to 1500 mgs and doing fine. Although, I am not regular and have started clomid with it.
My doctor is always taking blood tests and did so prior. He said that Glucophage does affect the liver so he wants to keep an eye on my liver panel.
Good luck to you!

all I know is they check the liver, becuase I was told I was going to have to take met, but since my liver levels were a tiny bit too high they won't let me start it until I get another liver test, something about you're not supposed to have higher than 40 and mine was 62 honestly I have no clue what that means though. The doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about but I don't know why I can't take it then, but that's why they're the doctor. I'm looking forward to seeing if met will work.

hi everyone,

well today i went to the doctor....i asked about the met/gluc and he said he'd put me on it, but to stay on with the clomid, 150mg.....
if i do this , this will be my 5th consecutive month takin clomid, which scares me a bit and seems pointless, from what ive read on here....

i feel more confussed and in the dark ...again, i mean i wanna trust and believe the dr knows what hes talking about, i mean dr's should, right... But then again alot of you have experienced it and i believe and take into thought what you all say too, so im very torn into what i should do....

And the dr didnt explain the glucophage, do i take everyday? when do i start it? when i get my period? if i do get it, ill have to ask when i pick up the pills for an explaination.....and im not sure if im on the right dosage, the script says glucophage 750mg (would this be the extended version?) (or do they all come in different mg's? ) #30 and some other stuff i cant read...so i guess ill know more when i drop it off to be filled...

any advice?? is this month worth a try?? what should i do??

Just a quick reply..... try the gluco and clomid!- it worked for me. I responded to your post earlier and today I found out that I was pregnant. I was on 1500 mgs of Glucophage and 100 mgs of Clomid. Keep plugging along! It does work!
Hugs and Best wishes,
Amy

I started taking the Metformin ER about 8-9 months ago for IR. I took 500mg for 2 wks and then upped my dose every 2 wks until I was up to 2000mg. I would HIGHLY recommend the ER (extended release) because it's much easier on your body and I had much less GI complaints (bloating/diarrhea). I've never done Clomid with Metformin so I don't know how well it work with it...but they usually do GTT testing while on Metformin.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!

And can anyone tell me when to take them? on the papaer that came with , said at evening meal, same time each night....is that what you all are doing? or doesnt it matter much?
And if i take the clomid with it, do i take them at different times...??
Im sorry for all the questions, but i feel so in the dark and my dr. is lacking to inform me of all the details...

Hey Liv,

Im not sure if you have normal cycles or even how long they are... However, I had to induce AF by a med. called Provera. You may have to look into that but make sure you are FOR SURE negative before taking it.
Also, I took the MET immediately when the doctor told me that I could. Its better to take them with food for it helps ease the stomach a little. It did not matter when I took mine. However, I did try to do them around the same time. I may have been an hour or so off.
You also mentioned the clomid. Did they tell you what cd to start yours? Some do it on cd 3-7 and others, like me did it on cd 5-9. If the doctor is not gonna share with you, I would just ask the questions myself. Better yet, I would call and have the nurse find out for me. You have every right to know. Hope this helps some!
Hugs,

Amy
