I am new to this board and i was wanting to know has anyone got pregnant on metformin?I just started taking it B/C my family Doc thinks i might have PCOS i don't know for sure yet.The reason he thinks i have PCOS is B/C my blood suger was running alittle high. Also he thinks i might have some of the signs. My DH and I have been trying to get pregnant for about 1 year on and off now and nothing has happend yet,I have been charting to. My OBgyn don't know about me being on these med's or about me maybe having PCOS.But he did do a lap on me about a year or so ago and he said everything looked great,He also said i was Oing.I do have some long cycles sometimes so maybe it looks like i am Oing and i am not or maybe i am just Oing on some months. So anyway i am going to tell my OBGYN about all of this when i go back.So my ? is do you think that metormin will help me get pregnant?
Please give me some of your good storys on getting pregnant while taking metformin.I am also on the adkins diet to. Like I saidi didhave a lap done last Nov and he said there was a little endo and he romoved it.He took pics of everything and he said everything looked good.So i am hoping the metformin does the trick lol.So someone please help.GL to you all.

Have you had blood work done yet? There are some good links up above in the resources that can give you some more info on metaformin/glucophage and about PCOS in general. My RE (reproductive endocrinologist) felt I had PCOS when he saw my bloodwork. I had a higher level of testoterone and my sugar levels were really off. When he did the ultrasound and saw the tell-tell "string of pearls", they verified it. We tried 3.5 years before I could get the referral to the RE. My OB just wouldn't refer me. He wanted to keep trying clomid and other stuff before sending me on. Big waste of time for me. I had an HSG done and started the metaformin the same time. A week after the metaformin, my cycle began and I had the HSG. I had 1 blocked tube that he blew out for me...OUCH! I did get pregnant after the next cycle. We are not 100% sure if I got pregnant because of the met or because of the blocked tube. I ovulated off of that side when I conceived ds. I don't think I am the normal person though who uses metaformin. I think it does work and a lot of ladies on the board end up on it at one point or another. I think I just got lucky.
I would let your OBGyn know what is going on and what your family doc suspects. You might be at a point where you can get a referral to an RE. Good luck and post more! Look forward to getting to know you!!!

There was a thread not to long ago with positive stories. I will try to unearth it for you. I am not currently trying. I want space between my kids and right now E is only 3.5 years old. I would prefer him closer to 5 before I do the baby thing again. Good luck and please post any time you have questions. There is a wealth of knowledge on this board. It is usually a bit quicker but we are quiet right now due to the holidays.

I became pg with DS#2 while on Metformin. I was on it about 3 months before conceiving. I was dx with PCOS by my RE based on bloodwork and ultrasound of my ovaries (many, many, many cysts). I continued the Metformin through my second trimester, and then stopped taking it. I was also on baby asprin up to my last month, PIO injections daily for the first 10 weeks, and HCG injections 2xweek for the first 10 weeks.
Hope the Met works for you. The side effects are horrible, but the reward can be GREAT!Christy

I'm new to this site as well. My DH and I have been ttc for about 16 months now. I just had an appt with an RE and he says that I have PCOS. I have to have more bloodwork done though. But, after the bloodwork gets back, he says he is going to put me on Metformin for 3 months and see what happens - it's I'm not PG in those 3 months he is going to put me on Clomid (again - I've been on it 2 cycles from my obgyn and dont believe I Oed with it) He said that he would probably up the dose, seeing as I was on 50 mg and I dont think it worked. Could have something to do with the fact that I'm overweight. But, I was wondering if there are any side effects with Metformin like Clomid? Hopefully it will work for me! DH and I want a little one so badly! Good luck to everyone and I would appreciate any insight. Thanks!! Janice

First of all, just wanted to say I love your little icons on the bottom of each post...especially the practice makes perfect one....
I always had an irregular period and pain for years. I was very active and for the most part kept the weight off but it was a battle. In 2002, I got with DH and gained 60 lbs in 6 months...i was still active, just not quite as much. I had a couple surgeries and and exploratory in march 03 and they figured out (FINALLY) that I had PCOS. My specialist put me on birth control pill and metformin(worked my way up to 2000 mg) for 3 months. She wanted me to take vitamins and get my body healthy in the 3 months before coming off the bc and ttc. Well, I immediately got pregnant with my son...BFP 07/31/03...confirmed with beta on 8/01/03. Had my precious Ayden on 3/26/04...he is now 21 months and the love of my life! I wish you and everyone else who is ttc the best of luck. I know it isn't that easy for most. Keep us posted.
Mommy to Ayden Eugene born 3/26/04 @ 5:13pm

Thanks everybody for your experiences. I just joined yesterday and it's a helpful to know that these BB are such an awesome resourc. It's nothing like having other PCOS'rs I can relate to. I've been actively seeking treatment since 2001. I haven't always had the best care. I always knew I had reproductive issues, I just didn't know what. I've always had irregular menses. Sometimes once a year or every few years. My menses were only regular when I was on the BCP's. I've had 3 failed IVF's one m/c from an IVF. I didn't do well on metformin the few times I tried it, but now I'm increasing very slowly on my dosage. I've been taking 500mg since 12/13/05 and today will be starting to take it twice a day and slowly increase to three times to get to 1500mg. I appreciate the succcess b/c it gives me hope. I'm also looking into mycoplasma and ureasplasa to ensure I don't have these issues. I and my DH have some things that related to those infections. I want to ensure I have the best chance possible. Well, I thank all of you inadvance for your support. It really is comforting to know I have many other people I can turn too.
