From the school newsletter today:
2008 Minneapolis Economic Congress Debate
Congratulations to the students who represented Washburn High School at the 2008 Minneapolis Economic Congress Debate, held at the University of Minnesota. Students from all seven Minneapolis High Schools debated the following economic issues that confront today's citizens:
1. Strategies to Finance College Education
2. National Economic Growth vs. Individual Income Equity
3. U.S. Role in Addressing Poverty in Developing Countries
The Washburn High School students were well prepared for their research and presentation on their topics - they were awarded first place for Topic 2 and Topic 3. The judges were Toby Madden, Regional Economic Analyst of the Federal Reserve Bank, Ed Lotterman, St. Paul Pioneer Press Columnist, and Elizabeth Davis, U. of M. Economics Professor.
Please congratulate the following students:
Whereby follows a list of names which includes Max!!!
I knew he had joined the debate team and I knew they were working on stuff for a meet, but I did not know exactly when it was NOR that it was such a big flippin' deal!!
I never know whether to be thrilled or pissed with this kind of news. Max will live his entire life without me ever getting so much as a snapshot of it. But it IS his life, not mine.
And Cole will tell me everything; I just know he will.
(Oh Colie PLEASE don't change!!!!)
