argh..........i really dislike this teacher

lara is in 6th grade. she is having semester exams this week. friday is scheduled to be a makeup day. i emailed all of lara's teachers over 2 weeks ago to find out if i keep her home on friday would she be missing anything important. every single teacher emailed me back stating there is no problem for lara to miss their class on friday EXCEPT i got no response from her first period advanced english class teacher. lara is supposed to present her oral presentation during her assigned exam day. well she comes home from school today all upset........she said her teacher decided that not all the kids in the class will have time to present their presentations during the assigned exam day so she chose who is to do it on thursday and who is to do it on friday. guess what? she told lara she is to do her presentation on friday. lara said but i won't be here on friday.........my mom emailed you that all the teachers had emailed her back except you that she is excused from school on friday. her teacher said to her. you show up and do your presentation on friday or you fail the presentation which is 20% of your grade....your choice.

so i emailed her teacher and her teacher said. lara has a choice she can do her presentation on her assigned date or fail it....i will not make an exception and change her assigned date.

so now we have to delay our trip until saturday to go to new york for the weekend.

i really dislike this teacher. she is one rude lady.

It's a difficult thing when you and the kid's teacher don't see eye to eye on things. Is it possible to pick her up from school, at the end of the class and hit the road then? Maybe that way, you'll miss beltway traffic???

it really isn't a big deal. it is not like i bought plane tickets we are driving. it is just the fact that this is the 2nd time something like this has happened with this teacher. i think she does it on purpose to have an upper hand or something. i told lara so you go to school it isn't like it is in the middle of the day or the last period of the day, it is your first period and i will pick you up from school after that.

Obviously, this teacher is not going to bend, so I'd say that picking Lara up right after 1st period sounds like a plan! What are your plans for NY?

i would call the principal and just make a point that you contact this teacher and she did not respond to you.(that would be a hugh issuse with me, as the primary educator of my child i would expect the teacher to at least show me the good grace to respond.)
2ndly what is the hugh butt deal in the teacher switching it to fri??? she is being high handed.

i have cousins that live in suffern. both of them just had new houses built the past 2 years and i haven't been up to visit them since we adopted aaron 6 years ago. we are going to go to the city one day to see the statue of liberty and eat lunch or an early dinner in chinatown. other then that the kids are all just going to hang out and play.

Sounds like a fun weekend! We live about 40 mins south of Suffern. Too bad we will be home with M recovering from surgery, otherwise I'd suggest we meet

they both actually live in airmont. one of my cousin's husbands used to be the judge there...his term ended last year. my other cousin is the cpa for the town.

what is the weather forecast for up that way this weekend? don't know if i should pack boots and snow pants for the kids as a just in case.

COLD. We are supposed to get bad weather Thurs into Fri. Flurries/snow showers over the weekend. Temps 30's-40's. I don't think we are expecting any snow accumulation.

We were just up at Rockland Comm College for a gymnastics meet last month. I used to work in Spring Valley.

i guess it could be worse tho, it could be the last period instead of the first, right?

hope you have a nice weekend. the weather's supposed to be very cold. temps in the teens....at least where i am. we get really cold temps due to the ocean. but where you're going gets really cold temps too due to the mountains. so bundle up!
