We are learning a lot. It looks like the babies will come home at some point next week. We will be doing our best to keep them on the NICU schedule. Hubby went back to work so he can take off when they come home. I've been at the hospital as much as I can when I have a ride.
My little dude Peyton is now allowed 5-8 bottles a day. Once he can down all 8, they will take his feeding tube out. The bigger baby is still on 4-5 bottle feeds a day. He's still working hard at learning to eat. Today and tomorrow the babies and I are going to start establishing the boob feeding. I think it'll be a traumatic day...but we can get through it!
The babies are now only hooked up to the vital stats and their feeding tubes. No IVs, no oxygen, nothing else!! I can see their little faces, which of course makes me happy as a clam!
Thank you so much for all the advice and calming words!! And for your viewing pleasure, Jamie is in the first photo, Peyton in the second!

Cute, cute, cute!
Please continue to keep us updated. Glad to hear they are doing well!
We started to have visitation in the parent room and the first time they were "unplugged" I walked them all over the tiny room just because I could!!!
Getting mine to latch (& stay awake) was a huge challenge and it went on for awhile after they were home. Mine never had super good suction but they kind of traded off who nursed and who got EBM (one had alot of trouble for about a month & then just got it) the other started wanting faster flow at that point so she would get the EBM then it kind of evened out on both nursing in turns before I finally lost my supply at 6+m (due to stress of going back to work I think) but it all worked out. So don't get discouraged, just do the best you can.
RE: The ride. The hospital doc told me that as long as I didn't take the pain killer (c-sec) I could drive. So I did. And at the 6wk post partum appoint. my Peri said "You can drive now" I said "uhhhh, I've been driving" and told her that the other OB said I could. She said "When you can see in your blind spot (by twisting) then it's ok usually". I said "Yaa, that really hurt at first!! (and it did)". It's not easy waiting on someone. The walk into the hospital was very long - it did help me get the baby weight off at least (of course mine were there 8wks).
Hang in there and I do hope that your LO's continue to thrive and get home ASAP.

I just can't believe the phone call we got from the Pediatrician tonight...
He sees no reason why BOTH boys can't come home TOMORROW!!!
Jamie is now eating at least the 30 cc's he has to eat. Both boys passed their car seat challenge. The only thing that could stop them from coming home is a bad night (lots of alarms, temps not staying stable, or Jamie not eating what he should be).
I just can't believe it! We've been busy tonight. I have chili cooking. I make chicken for tomorrow. I made rice for the chili, and hard boiled eggs! Tomorrow while I'm nervously waiting ALL day for hubby to come get me, I have a laundry list of stuff to get done (including making lots of cookies for the NICU staff.)
But when I go to bed tomorrow night (I know, fat chance I sleep much), both of my babies will be home with us!!
(for anyone keeping track, tomorrow they will be 36 weeks and 2 days gestation and 13 days old)

That is great! Just remember the only real thing you need is a place for them to sleep. Everything else can wait. Trust me, you will want to get some rest tomorrow. I will keep my fingers crossed that they have a very boring night!

Two miracles!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a rather long story but I will be as brief as possible.
My husband and I had been trying to conceive for over 5 years when we finally agreed to seek help. I starting see an endocronologist in Bethesda at Columbia Fertility. First we tried Clomid but that wasn't working so we went to IUI which failed twice. Okay, on to IVF. First cycle failed.
I was very disappointed and really felt like giving up because I didn't want to face the hurt of not conceiving again. Hate the phone calls when they say "sorry Mrs. Langley." However, on my way to work from the doctor's office one morning, I got stuck at a red light. The Lord told me to look over to my left. There was a consignment shop called "Consider It Done," and I took that as a sign that the Lord was telling me that it was okay to try one more time.
Thank God for good insurance coverage because this was getting to be quiet costly.
My second IVF try was a success. Imagine how I felt the morning I took a pee test and saw two lines immediately! Went in for blood work and went to work to wait for the call. This time it was, "Congrats Mrs.Langley!" we need you to come back in because your numbers are very high. Went in the next day and the numbers had tripled. First sono, we saw two sacs! I was carrying twins! OMG talk about God giving you double for your trouble. All was well and went through Thanksgiving and Christmas in a daze.
January 4, 2010, I went in for my 19-20 week check up and the technician left me in the room for about 10 minutes. When the door opened and I saw my doctor my heart dropped. He explained to me that it appeared that I was having what they call a second trimester miscarriage and that my cervix had open and the membranes from one of the bags was lodged through the cervix. I was admitted to Holy Cross in Silver Spring on bedrest and was tilted in my bed with head pointed towards the ground (Lord help me!). My husband rushed from work to be by my side and all I could do was pray and call on people that I knew could pray.
Everyday I had a sono done and everyday my cervix opened more and more. The Perinatologist didn't think it wise to try a cerclage for fear that it would pop the bag for baby A and we would lose both babies. So I just had to wait it out.
My doctor told me that I had to at least be 23 weeks before they would even consider resusitating my babies. The neonatologist told me that they would do everything possible to save them if that was what I wanted. Thank God for Dr Picard. On Wednesday, January 27th my water broke for baby A, it was the day before I was to be 23 weeks and the day before they would give me the steriod shots to mature their lungs. I was devastated. Again, I called my praying family and friends. I didn't have any contractions so they decided to just let me be so that they didn't disturb baby B. They told me that baby A would likely die since she (my baby girl)was already in my vagina and that they would leave her there so that baby b (my baby boy) would have a better chance of staying put. Thursday, no baby. Friday, no baby. Saturday, no baby. Three days went by and still baby A had not come out.
January 31st around Noon hubby decided to bathe me. While doing so we noticed that something was hanging out! Nurses were called and we she came in I could tell by the look on her face that things were going to be crazy. I was wheeled around to L&D with the nurses hand literally in my vagina trying to push my daughter back in. Her cord was what we saw and they feared that the cord would get squished. My doctor was on call so there were people in there that I had never seen and didn't know my history. I was so scared and could tell by the look on his face, that my husband was too.
They wanted to do a c-section but I objected because I knew that my son's bag was still in tact so they told me to push and I did, three times and heard, "congratulations on your baby girl." I looked at the clock and it was 1:14p.m. Dr Picard, the neonatologist came over and said that they had her breathing and she was 1lb exactly. They had to take her to the NICU immediately so I didn't get to see her. We named her Logan Nichelle Langley.
They checked on baby b and he was still in tact no raised or lower heartbeats so I was sent to recovery and then back to the Peri ward where I waited for him to be born. The next day they perform an emergency cerclage because my cervix had closed back up. One week, no baby. Two weeks, no baby, Three weeks, no baby. Sunday the first day of the fourth week I started having contractions. The nurse told me that I wasn't because she didn't see anything on the monitor but I knew I was because I had never felt this kind of pain. They called the doctors and by then my temperature had went up and they said that I had an infection. The doctor came and said that I was not in labor but then my water broke. I was rushed again to L&D, this time we waited to see how I was contracting. I wouldn't dilate past four centimeters even with the pitocin and Baby b's heart rate begin to drop and it was decided that I would have a c-section. Baby B was born at 3:15pm on Sunday, February 21st weighing 1lb and 14 oz. exactly three weeks after his sister. We named him David Joshua James Langley. David and Logan were in the NICU for 130 and 109 days. They both came home together on 6/11/2010. It was a long journey with both having surgeries and all kinds of illnesses. They are now 14lbs and 11lbs and as healthy as two micro preemies could be. God had smiled on us.
