"So you ONLY have one"...remark GRRRR

Today my neighbor had company and told us to come by so Aidan could play w/ the kids. Her friend was there and she proceeded to introduce me to her children. I repeated the names, and said, "So there are five children, correct" wanting to make sure I did not miss one. She beamed and said, "Yes, and you only have the one?" You know i was sooooooooo close to asking why she needed to use the word "only" to describe my child, but I refrained b/c she was my neighbor's company and I did want to cause an awkward situation at her home. I did NOT comment on her family size, that she had 5. I did not say "Whoa haven't YOU been busy? Where do you put them all?" The children were clearly of different racial backgrounds (2 looked just like her however) and she pointed out that her youngest are "only 6 months apart" clearly inviting me to pry and ask about how her family came to be, but I did not, b/c I AM NOT RUDE LIKE SOME PEOPLE!!!! A family is a family, and I am not going to ask which are bio/adopted/step/half/foster/etc.

Ugh, just having a stinky day...

(((HUG))) I swear some people are just nosy! Like they are asking for some explanation as to why we chose to have one child!! It's really nobody's business! Sorry this women made you feel bad....obviously she doesn't mind sharing her family history...but she needs to realize not everyone else does.

Good for you! You made me laugh out loud at your "I am not rude like some people" sentence.

I always find it odd when people say, "So you just have the one?" like you're in the checkout line at the supermarket and they want to make sure you pay. It's not a tally on a list -- he's my son!

(And at this very moment, our neighbor girls -- sisters -- are screaming at each other with rage right outside the window -- one of those moments that makes me think, whew, I don't have to deal with this!)
