Wondered if any of you out there might be able to recommend a window covering solution for me.....
The triplets are now 3 and a half. My vertical blinds that were on their last leg finally broke the string. We haven't actually used them much (just leave them open) but have a babysitter who closes them. Last time she was here, I went to open them the next morning and the cord broke.
The sliding door is in our kitchen and about 6 inches of the window part is blocked by the fridge, so access is sort of a problem.
My SIL had commented when we bought the house that vertical blinds weren't the best for kids but didn't have a good idea of what to replace it with.
I looked at some cordless honeycomb blinds at Penney's the other day. Was almost sold on them when DH said that he didn't want the weight at the bottom to "slam" into the sliding glass door and break it....UGH! The fridge door opens into it and the glass hasn't been broken yet. My plan was to buy two of these horizontal blinds, one for each side of the door.
Today, the sun was in DD's eyes at breakfast and I couldn't do much about it since the cord broke. Please share any solutions that worked for you and your kids. It's driving me nuts to know that the darn thing is broken and not knowing what to replace it with.
Thanks,
Andi

In the summer we hang roller shapes outside from hooks. They are made of reeds. They're cheap and keep the heat out. And the kids can't get hurt on the cords or wreck them.

We just have regular curtains on our sliding glass door. But ours is located in our morning room (off our kitchen) and it has 7 other windows (floor to ceiling) in addition to the sliding door so we just put the same curtains on the door as on the other 7 windows. If that makes sense! So my answer is no blinds/shades, etc just buy regular curtains! I like tab topped ones although that is not what we have in that room.
