Isn't it funny how things turn out? I thought our Walkie Talkies would be a huge hit too, but they don't get it either...

Stephanie, we have the wordwhamer and the first space letter didn't seem to work either, but I left it up for a while and now it seems to work fine. For a while no matter what letter we put in it said it was "C". Now it seems to be fine.

I'm just not a battery person. The day care provider gave us a talking doll that had a snap, button, zipper, etc that was supposed to help dd learn how to do all these wonderful things. Two minutes after we got her home and dd started playing with her, I CUT THE @#$% wires to the batteries so she would NEVER talk again. We've had tons of fun playing with the silent doll since then. The college girl who has babysat for us forever and still does got the girls a vanity with lights and sound. They got it on the 23rd and today the only thing it does is one of the three lights stays on constantly. I think it may have been stepped on one too many times or something. We had already had to change the batteries once, now the buttons don't seem to work and the one light is stuck on. I might have to go find a replacement before the babysitter gets back from break. (I hate to have her see it's broken already--maybe Walmart or whoever has them on clearance now)
Oh, and I would have asked for toys for the kids with fewer parts if I were smarter. Fridge Phonics, Mr. potato head, food and dishes set....they are everywhere.
I am glad I gave them stick horses this year. The girls love them even though the sound's not real good on one of them sometimes (it was only $6) I thought they would be too young for them but seem to be enjoying them, esp. dd.

DD got Little Pony Sunshine (the plush one that "wakes up" and talks and sits up). Our first clue that it wasn't working properly was when it said "good night" when it was waking up. Dd pointed out that just wasn't right! Then it started making this horrible grinding and clicking noise that scared both kids! Poor dd was so upset because Santa had found that pony just for her and how would he know it wasn't working and how in the world would we ever find another one???? I mean, she had woken at 4:45 Xmas morning and was exhausted, but stayed awake until after 9 pm, worrying about getting that new pony. We have already made the journey back to TRU (the place Santa said we could go exchange any of his toys that weren't working/perfect - you know, those elves are still too busy to come pick broken toys up, repair them and return them very quickly!!), so that's all mended.
We really thought ds would love his giant new Lego set, but his favorite toy is the Rescue Hero, Cliff Hanger.
The biggest bombs (to me, anyway, the kids love them) are a Precious Moments make-up set (for kids 6 and up, but my aunt sent it anyway! UGH!) and a cheap remote control fire engine whose motor is so tiny it can't pull the engine with the trailer/ladder attached. UGH again!!

I got the trio a kids CD player which came w/3 "CDs". It is cute- but the sound is sooo quiet you can barely hear it and there is no volume control switch
I HATE toys that you can't turn them up or down or off!
