d has to have his tonsils/adenoids removed next week thurs on the 30th after he got his 5th step infection of the year and the swelling in is tonsils is not going down. i know this is routine, i know it is done every day and there is minimal risk of complications but i can already feel the panic setting in. i am already in my head envisioning the worst possible outcome, even though te logical side of my head knows that is not very likely to happen.
i have no idea how on earth i am going to make it through the next week...so please talk me down ladies.

oh hun... i've been there done that with Abi just a few weeks ago when she had tubes put in. The logical side goes out of the window and the emotional irrational side takes over. Breathe.... Breathe... Breathe....
I will remind you that it is routine. I will remind you that it will be OK. And I will remind you to breathe.
Sometimes having others say it to you can help. I know I drew on those words with Abi and it helped to hear them over and over. Another thing that helped was to concentrate that it's a solution to ____ (what ever it is that they are trying to fix, in Abi's case it was hearing loss) and then just hope that "composed" persona kicks in, which did for me the morning of surgery. Also staying as busy as humanly possible helps too.

I felt the same way when J had tubes last Oct...when he was one.
((((hugs))))
D will be fine. But if you are like me, you won't rest until he's home and healed 100%.
I had my tonsils taken out when I was 17. Honestly, it wasn't too bad! It was the BEST thing I ever did. I gave up a trip to Hawaii (my high school drill team was going) so I could stay home during spring break and have my tonsils removed. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Wellllll....not sure I'd give up a paid trip to Hawaii, but I'd def. do the surgery again. I used to be sick ALL the time and things got so much better after my surgery!
((((hugs again))))

Well I'd love to talk you down but put in the same situation I'd be freaking out too.

I'm sure he will do perfect and everything will be fine though. I don't think you'd be a Mom if you didn't worry. Big

(((hugs))) It is hard to watch them go into surgery so young! But...this is really a very normal procedure and you've got him with a good doctor that you trust...all will be well hon.
And...imagine how much happier he is going to be when he's not getting strep every five minutes. My poor DH has a bout of it every 3 months because he still has his tonsils. Your guy will be so much happier and healthier once it is over.
Keep us posted, okay?
