I wanted to share a moment that just floored me the other day.
My sister just had a baby, a girl, of course. She's been trying for a long time to get a good professional portrait of her for a birth announcement. But it just hasn't happened. The hospital newborn pictures are terrible. And even the photographer they hired to come out to the house did an awful job.
So my sister has decided they are just going to use a good snapshot instead. Their unanimous favorite is a good shot of the wee thing in a purple dress.
So my sister calls me the other day to get my permission to use this photo of her daughter in the birth announcement. Why? The purple dress has a pink butterfly on it.
I was speechless. I mean...I certainly don't think I own butterflies, you know? And I'm so used to everyone just ignoring my feelings and doing what they want...having someone actually think of how something might make me feel and running it by me first....wow.
So I told her my niece can happily share butterflies with her cousin and it's ok with me. And I thanked her for asking me. I tried to explain how I felt, but I am pretty sure I came up short.
Lol..all these dhac experiences just knock the wind out of me. But the non-dhac one left me speechless. Lol.
I just wanted to share where it might actually make some sense.

That was very sweet of her!
I had a friend call me and leave me a message on Lily's b-day. But then 3 days later she forgot my birthday. When I talked to her a few days later, she was so sorry for forgetting my birthday and I told her that every one remembers my birthday and hardly anyone remembers Lily's and it meant more to me that she remembered her. She and her new boyfriend even ate cake and sang happy birthday to her. It just melted my heart.

OK, I'm misty, really misty over this. Don't these out of the blue expressions just blow you away? It seems for me for every 10 DHAC comments, it only takes 1 non DHAC gesture to take all the bad away.
to you and your sister and I it's too bad you are not there to give her a hug yourself in person.

Wow Tess! That is so extremely thoughtful of her. And you're right - the non-DHAC experiences really do leave you speechless, because they're so very rare.

That is so thoughtful of your sister! There are so few people out there that "get it." They think because we go on and have other children that our angels don't matter. I have one sister that gets it (who is not a parent) and the other has no clue (and is a parent). Many hugs to you and your sister!
