About LinkBacksI take Joey to Gymboree and I love it. Today, Joey took a pretty big spill, clunked his head and bit his tongue, which was bleeding. Of course, he started bawling, to which I calmly picked him up, hugged him and said "I'm sure that scared you and it must have hurt" and I gave him another hug.
Another mom in the class was sitting nearby with her kid and she said, "I always tell my son "you're okay. You're okay" and don't make a big deal out of accidents" to which I responded, "I usually say, 'that scared you, didn't it?' and don't make a bit deal out of it, but this time it clearly hurt and I felt he deserved a little love"
To which she lightheartedly said, "oh. I guess so. But it's not like he's going to die or anything"
I wanted to say was "no b!tch, he wo'nt die from this accident, but babies can and DO die. I know because 3 of mine did so if I want to give my kid some lovies when he hurts himself, I will, so shut the f up."
Instead I said, "I hope not" and walked away. I hate comments like that, though. URG.

I don't know if I could have kept my mouth shut, I probably would have bit her head off. I can't believe she said such a thing! What a bloomin' idiot!! I wish we didn't know first hand that babies die.

I would have loved to see her face if you did tell her that you have had three babies die...would serve her right to feel like a b!tch!

Omgosh. What an insensitive lout! I think I would have told her what I thought about that! You do whatever you want to, there is nothing wrong with giving your babies a little extra love, JEEZ!

What a strange and stupid thing to say! FWIW, I would have done exactly the same thing as you, especially if there was bleeding. Poor Joey! Wonder if that woman ever gives her kids a kiss and a cuddle? (((Hugs))) to you and Joey.

I dont look forward to getting parenting advice from perfect strangers. I'd probably just say "good for you," and let her deal with it. Not waste time explaining why a CHILD needs LOVE. And if someone even mentioned dying, I'd say "Would I be wasting time talking to you if that were a posssibility?" Silly people want to make thier kids lil robots who dont cry when they are hurt - she should be learning from you and not criticizing you.

I LOATHE when people trivialize things or parent my child from their house!
You know, what gives her the right to determine if Joey is "okay" or not...only Joey knows if he is hurt and clearly he was by his reaching out to you for a kiss and/or cuddle.
It is sad that that women's children will quickly learn that they can't count on their own parent for love and nurturing when they need it.
