My results...

We got the call yesterday saying I needed to come in today (Thurs), so we did. Sweet dh wanted to come, too. The polyp he removed was one that has the potential to become cancer. Colon cancer has 3 stages they said. The first being the potential to become cancer, 2nd is pre-cancer, and 3rd is colon cancer. Mine was in the first stage. I have to go back in 2 wks to do a full colonoscopy. (Less fun than the other one)

The nurse was VERY surprised how young I am for this polyp to have been there in the first place but even more surprised at that it would have turned into something. I have to go back now every 3 yrs to have a colonoscopy done to make sure nothing is growing back. She said if I had waited until I was older...it would have been bad.

Now, we wait for the next procedure to be done. And, then wait a wk or so for those results. God is really "growing" me in the patience department. I am SO thankful that I went when I did. I am SO thankful that I didn't listen to other JERKY dr's that said..you are too young.(Had a GI dr last year when I was showing symptoms that told me to eat more fiber!!) My nurse practioner is a saint. I may go buy her a present!

Moral of the story...if you feel like you need to go to the dr and don't get the results you think you should have gotten....FIND SOMEONE ELSE! We're not done yet, but the ending to this story today is that I am going to be fine!! And, prayerfully in 2 wks the results are the same or even better. Brad did ask if they find other polyps, would they be the same stage? And, she said no. They may find some that are nothing.

Y'all God is so faithful. And, I'm..once again...incredibly thankful. Thanks to y'all for being so funny, sweet, and supportive. I'll definitely update you once we know the next results. Y'all are the best.

I'm glad you kept searching...my mil is here today only becasue she went to 3 drs before finding one that would remove the lump in her breast. They all wanted to wait and see. She wanted to know and it was cancerous. If she had waited it would not have been good since her mom and every other female relative on her paternal side had breast cancer and died from the results. Knock on wood she has been free for 10 years. I know it's a drag to do those tests but they will be worth it....I will be thinking of you. Hang in there a little longer!

I was hoping for a diffirent report, but I am glad you have found it early. I know more tests are not fun, but it is a blessing to know you are in the hands of a copitent care giver and they are going to do all they can and see that you stay healthy. We are here anytime you need us.

Glad you were so proactive. What a relief that they caught it early! Hope the colonoscopy goes well. My fil gets one done every year (has had several polyps removed that were pre-cancerous) and told me his doctor gives him some sort of seditive before it to relax, is that standard practice? If not ask for it if yuo think it will help.

A good friend of mine recently found out that her best friend from high school has end-stage colon cancer. She was just diagnosed in March and given less than a year to live. She's only 40!! Younger that me. Very scary...take care of yourself.

Little update....I called the NP to thank her. She was SHOCKED that it was the kind to potentially become cancer. (I love that this medical world thinks I'm young at 32!) She was happy to help me but thought she did nothing "spectacular". I told her she was wrong...she listened and actually cared. She told me I made her day.

And, ya know what? She made mine. God is good.

Colon Cancer

Hi Shelley:

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! It sounds as if your doctors found this polyp early, before it became a bigger medical ordeal for you. Thank goodness for that!

I was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 45, 13 months ago. My tumor was the size of a baseball. I had it removed, and had resection surgery. This was followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. I had a followup colonoscopy two weeks ago, and I got a clean bill of health! I am cancer free!!! God is Good!

Cancer can strike at any age. Everyone needs to watch for signs and symptoms. Don't ignore anything you are suspicious of. It is better to be safe than sorry!

*Hugs*
