    Letter for ds

Ds' school has a senior's breakfast where the local elementary/middle school teachers come to reminince with there students. I found out about it and felt so bad for ds cause he didn't go to school here and won't have any teachers to remince with. I sent emails to some of the teachers I knew mattered to him. I thanked them for making a positive difference in ds' education and life, gave them an update about ds and ask if they would mind sending a hello email that I could give ds to read that day. Two middle school teachers responded withing hours with such lovely letters. In an interesting twist the middles school ds went to was closed and both those teachers are now at the high school teaching many of ds' classmates from that year.

I have to share part of one letter with you as it's just so cool that after almost 5 years this teacher remembers him so fondly.

"I am honored you included me in your high school graduation activities. I am so happy to hear of your high school success and acceptance into the University of Puget Sound. Congratulations!
I have taught many students this year who attended MS with you. Just last week several of those students and I were talking about the "good old days," and your name came up. You helped make that 8th grade class a pleasurable one to teach.
I enjoyed teaching you every class session because you were an active, participating learner. You were able to express and support your point of view. Although you did not know it, I came to rely on you to "drive" class discussions.
In addition, you had, and I am sure still have a great sense of humor, eh?
Remember, the only constant in life is change. Make things happen, don't depend on another to do so.
Continued good fortune "Canada," and please keep in touch."

Canada was this teachers nick name for ds. I found the comment about ds driving class discussions interesting as one of his teachers this year told me they can always count on ds to ask a question that lead discussion right where they want it to go.

I have to add that prior to having this teacher ds had experienced so many negative learning experiences that I will be forever grateful to teachers like this one.

That is so cool that this teacher had such great memories of your son, and took the time to share them.

What a great letter and such a cool idea! I think it is a great idea to show kids what teachers thought of them, a much needed boost (unless, of course, the teacher couldn't stand you)

Yes, that is a cool tradition his current school has, and very nice of you to contact some of his prior teachers. What an awesome letter back. I always wonder whether teachers remember any of their students after a few years.
