I am whining:
I miss my mum
I am feeling very low and am finding it hard to do just day to day stuff
I keep forgetting to breathe
and I am still no wiser about the news I got a few weeks ago..........

I miss my Mom, too.
For some reason, it's hitting me extra hard this month. Maybe it's because I'm turning 40 next week and she isn't here to joke about me finally being "39 and holding." (When people used to ask her age, that's what she'd say. "I'm 39 and holding.")
Or maybe it's because I really, really, really need to get my tush in gear and get her house in shape to sell. We can't afford to keep it any longer. But houses in that area aren't selling at all. And it just plain hurts to have to pack up and/or give away her things.Last edited by MarinaTwinMom; 02-12-2008 at 08:02 PM.

I learned tonight that our postman died of a heart attack this weekend. He was gentle and kind. He always took my packages no matter what the size and never scrunched his face. He was too young, 52. It makes me sad...kind of makes my heart hurt.

Ohhh Leigh and Marina... That Mom thing... <sigh> it just comes on and sorta takes over at certian times, huh?
Marina, I had to do my Mom's house and my MIL's house -- each one lived in their homes for YEARS... it took me many, MANY trips... I would go over, get started and then, get caught up folding a load of clothes she left in the dryer... or looking at old mail... or old photos... or an old tin of buttons... or the contents of her wallet... I remember sitting in front of her freezer crying... thinking she froze this stuff for a reason... how can I just throw it out? Yet, I had no clue what most of it was!
What I finally did was to break it down into rooms... one room at a time... and I stripped each room of anything I couldn't give up. I would cart those items home from each trip and put it away, right away... I wouldn't move on to a new room until THAT room was stripped... curtains, bedding, closet... everything! It might be different for you since you need to stage this place for sale.
Get plastic tubs for storage... I still haven't gone through all of the pictures.. it's been 17 years, but I know they are all safely stored in those airtight moisture proof tubs...
I made boxes for anyone who I intended to give things to and when their boxes were full, I had them, come over to get the stuff.
I think the key is to not take home anything you do not intend to keep...
Have one big yard sale at your Mom's place <if possible> and then, call GoodWill or some charity to take whatever you don't sell.
I wish I were closer to help you <hugs>
