Wow!! Mind if I brag for a second?!?!
I feel like such a guppy!! These people have so much history, I'm walking around, listening and learning so much...amazed! We have roundtables and lectures in the morning, workshops in the afternoon, and readings by the authors w/wine and cheese in the evenings!
I have met and listened to:
Richard Price (Clockers, Color of Money)...well, I didn't speak much with him, but he lectured twice and now he's gone...intimidating....
Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Run Baby Run)
Tom Franklin, (Poachers)
Sterling Watson (Sweet Dream Baby)
And I'm in poetry workshops with Beth Ann Fennelly....and Peter Meinke will be in our workshop on Thursday!
This has been an amazing week so far.....I can't believe that I am doing something so crazy!!! The people in my life tolerate me 'cause they love me, but secretly I know they think I'm nuts with my 'poetry thing'
Thank you to all of you who encouraged me to go and helped me pick out my poems....

LOL! A guppy is what Ariel called Flounder in Little Mermaid instead of calling him a baby!
I am absorbing as much creative flow as I can here. One other really cool side effect...dh has had to take care of the kids all weekend and every evening when he gets home. So on the phone to me the other day he said, "I am telling you, again, I do not want your job!" I think that's a good lesson to be repeated sometimes!!

I'm glad that you're having a wonderful time at the conference!

I have always wanted to go to a national SCBWI (Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) conference, but never have. They're usually in places like L.A. or New York. If they ever have one in Seattle, though, I might actually try to go ...
