pregnant, almost 46

I did it!!! I was on a rest cycle because I had a cyst. Did not even think about getting pregnant this month, really did not try, only had BMS 1 time. (cd18) I had so much other stuff going on, planning a big party, starting a new job. And WOW it happened. beta 12,621. I thought I was late because of the cyst. I am so excited. Sending STICKY BABY DUST TO YOU ALL...See us older women can still do it, I will be 46 next month. I really think the key is to relax, it was the first time in 18 months that I was not thinking about getting pregnant. After all the poking and proding and injections over the last 5 months, it happened all natural.I go for an ultrasound tomorrow. I will keep you all posted.

Good for you Patty! You represent hope for all of us. That's an incredibly strong beta number - how far are you, and can this # represent twins? I actually don't have a sense for the numbers.

I have to point out that some people are sensitive about being told "all you have to do is relax." They have actually done a study on a similar belief, that as soon as you adopt/start to adopt, you get pregnant, and found it's not true. While it's undoubtedly true that excessive stress can effect outcomes, most of us will not get pregnant simply because we relax.

But, that doesn't take away one iota from your joy, or your miracle, or my happiness for you. Hope to join you soon!

Patty,
Wow! Congratulations! It's always a thrill to see someone beat the odds on getting pg. on this board. Please do post the results of your u/s. Will be inspiring to see a woman our age go all the way to birth with her own stuff!

I agree with Teresa. If only relaxing were all one had to do to get pg. ....

Best wishes,
Janie

Congrats!!!!!!!

This is wonderful news for you and for all of us over 40 trying to get preg. Keep us posted!

Can you shed some info. regarding your cycles? How many IUI's, IVF? Was the age factor the main problem in getting preg.?

Thanks.

I am truly sorry to anyone that I upset by saying relax. I really did not intend to do that. I realize that everyone has different circumstances. In my case I think it did make a difference. Good luck to all of you. I pray that all of you will get your bfp soon.

Patty,

Please don't feel you upset anybody or have to apologise! We are very happy to hear your news, and relaxation is unquestionably helpful - just not the only thing. Please do share the details of your cycles and story, to inspire us all.

Janie, Rachel, Teresa,
Thanks for the congrats!!! I had gone through an IUI cycle in June and August. Both times using gonal-f, both times I had produced 3 eggs between 17 and 21. Dh count was about 40 mil with 100% mobility. Both times it did not work. In September, I did a natural cycle, they did b/w to see if I had O'd and then put me on progesterone suppositories just in case. Well because of the progesterone AF was a week late. Then finally on October 1st she arrived. I normally have 27 day cycles. When I went for my day3 testing they found a small cyst on my left overy. they said it was small ,that it should go away without treatment. I went for a consultation with the RE on Oct 14 to discuss further plans. He told me then that He would continue the IUI's that there was a chance I could get pregnant. The only issue I had was my age, I will be 46 next month. My last blood work showed my FSH was 2.7 and e2 was 80. When they first tested FSH, back in June it had been 9.5. I have no idea why it went down, but I guess that helped. I do have two other children. The first is 22 years old. I had him when I was 23. I had miscarried twins at 26. The second just turned 2. I had gotten pregnant in 4 months with him, when I was 43. We have been ttc since number 2 was born. My regular obgyn was not encouraging me to get pregnant again, because I developed H.E.L.L.P syndrome at 34 weeks, and they had to take the baby early. He was born almost a month early, but was over 7 lbs and healthy. Obgyn also just thought I was getting to old. That is why I started going to RE in June. Who knows if it would have happened anyway or not, but I am glad I had pursued having another child , and not give up because of what other people think. Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to fill you in. I hope you all can tell your story soon.
HUGS AND BABY DUST

Patty - Thanks for sharing your story. You give me hope. I'm 41, had a failed IVF this past Sept. and then had a Tubal Reversal this past Oct. and we are TTC naturally. I'm @ 5 DPO right now and hoping that something is going on in there! I'm not going to test...too much stress. I'm just hoping AF is late!
