I am beyond upset. Beta not doubling!!!!!

Please--- pg is mentioned in the body of this thread----I do not want to be insensitive
I am new to this board and rarely post but I am really in need of some positive feedback. I am 42 and DH is 53. We ave an 8 yo DD (IVF #2) and I want terribly to give her a sibling. This is my 2nd attempt at baby #2 (#1 was BFN) I got a BFP on 6/19/10 beta was 95. I was so hopeful but today it was only 129. The nurse said being that they transferred 5 embryos (2 8 cell, 1 6 cell, 1 5 cell, and 1 4 cell) there is a possibility that more than one implanted which gave me the initial beta of 95 but one stopped growing, hence the failure for the beta to double. I have been reading posts but I don't see that this has happened to anyone else. Is there any hope. My poor DD is soooooo happy, she can't stop talking about it. I'm so sorry I told her she would be so disappointed if it didn't happen. I sort of assumed that just as after my positive beta with my DD (I was 32) everything would move along as expected without a problem. Thanks for any information.

    Awww, that stinks.

What your nurse said DOES happen, but it is rare. There have also been cases where one of the two betas were wrong and the third beta shows correctly (as in : 1-95, 2-129, 3-800).

I hope you get good news on your third beta. Honestly, odds are against you. But I *have* seen situations where it turns out ok.

I am sorry you are having to go through this...

    Crystal

capnj-I am hoping that the third beta rises appropriately. I know how hard it is but at least you got a positive beta that is huge. Beta limbo is tough. Hang in there. ((((Hugs))))

On another board in fc we have a mom who "claims" to have used her own eggs at 44 to conceive and she has twins with two heartbeats. Remote possibility but I too hope she carries on.

    Keep trying.

Thanks so much dawnymarie for asking

My third beta was drawn yesterday and it was 334. The nurse said that I shouldn't think positive or negative about it but that I should go in for another beta and an ultrasound on Monday. Its very hard. Thanks for asking.

Ok, I went for ultrasound today and it did show a gestational sack, one gestational sack. They also drew blood but never called me with the beta result. When I called to ask the on-call nurse (by the time I was tired of waiting the office was closed) the nurse on-call said that I was marked as a "no call" but she remembered that my beta was "good" but she didn't remember the number. She will call me in the morning. UGH!!!!!! more waiting. I have to go back Friday for another ultrasound and bloodwork.

Capnj - if you were on the no call list that is an awesome sign. I am so excited for you. Stay positive and keep sane (although I know that is hard). Sending you hugs. Keep us updated.

dawnymarie-Thanks for asking. I can't tell you how much better I feel to share with other women who understand. I got my 4th beta result which was 1247. The nurse always sounds so nuetral though. I guess they are trained not to give false hope but I am soooooo excited. She said on Friday they should see a yolk sac but she also said that I was 5 weeks because they calculate from the HCG injection but my HCG was 6/3/10 so that would make me not even 4 weeks yet. I didn't calculate until after I spoke to her so I will have to make sure that their records are correct when I go in on Friday. Why did you say that me being on the no-call list is a good sign? Where are you in your journey? I'd like to pray for you too!

Cap - I know I hate that the nurse always sound neutral. As far as being on the no-call list, in my clinic if you don't get a call it is good. If you get a call it is bad. The RE always said he wants to put people on the no call list.

I am waiting for IVF. My insurance covers 80% but you have to get pre-approval so I am waiting for that. I am actually trying for number 2. I had my ds 2 years ago after 3 failed IVFs. I was getting ready for another IVF and ended up pg naturally. A true miracle. I am hoping for another miracle now.

    Keep us updated.
