Donor Egg Time - and my head is swimming

We are now starting to think seriously of using a Donor Egg... so far it seems I can only find two sources in the St. Louis area (I'm trying to keep the costs down).

Lots to look into - the health of the donor is the easiest part. There are agency fees, donor insurance, screening, legal agreements. And no guarantee of anything.

Hugs. Welcome to FT. IT sounds like you are well on your journey. You may want to post on the '40+ and trying for first baby' thread, which is usually at the top (or very near the top) of this board.

It gets the most and regular traffic. Sometimes these side threads don't get seen by the very folks who can lend you support. Don't be shy, jump in. Or lurk for a bit first if that's more your style.

While many women there are TTC#1, others have child(ren) already. I know some have gone and/or are going the donor route.

I believe there's also a Donor Egg board, although I don't have a pointer.

Wishing you all the best,
-Tia

encouraging you on the next step...

You're right - there are a tons of issues to look at, from cost to legal issues. Talk to your clinic about who they recommend using, but know you have other options beyond your clinic.

"Having Your Baby Through Egg Donation" is a pretty handy book that addresses some of the emotional issues. You can buy it pretty cheaply used on Amazon.

Wishing you joy,

Hi 44-yo mom--

I'm a 44 yo mom thanks to DE. Yes, it's overwhelming, but if you sort things through one by one it will help you find your way.

It helped me tremendously to see a fertility counselor, to read the book "Having your baby through egg donation", and to talk with others on the DE board here and also at: www DOT network54 DOT com/Forum/57451/In addition, both my BIL and SIL had their children through egg or sperm donation, so that made things easier for me and my beau.

First we had to decide whether we wanted anonymous or known donation, (or semi-known, as in situations where the donor is open to meeting the child later in life). Then we had to choose whether we wanted to use a clinic donor, an agency, or ask relatives.

In choosing a donor, it helped to browse agency web sites to get an idea of how I felt about donors and what I was looking for, but I also wrote to some of my younger female relatives about the situation and -- as it turned out -- one of them offered to donate, and now, thanks to my brave, beautiful & generous cousin -- we have healthy, happy boy/girl twins!

I wish you all the best in your journey, and don't hesitate to PM me and to ask more questions here -- there's a wealth of experience on these boards.

Best,
Kat
