Over 40 with IUI

Has anyone gotten pregnant at 40 or older using the IUI procedure instead of IVF? I am 40 soon to be 41 and my doctor currently has me trying IUI. I have tried one cycle so far and it failed but she said my ovaries responded very well and has high hopes that the IUI will work. I would love to hear from any others out there if they have had success with IUI at 40 or higher.

I had a successful IUI in June 2007 but sadly m/c'd twins. I'm still trying with IUI and crossing my fingers as we already have children and will not move towards IVF. Good luck!

What meds have you ladies used? I will be trying IUI this cycle. Like Poohbear, we will not do IVF, so are hoping to have more luck with IUI than with BMS. I'd be interested to know what meds have worked best with IUI.

I did 3 IUI's that looked hopeful but that alas didn't work -- however, my SIL had a baby girl past age 40 using IUI. I hope you'll have success!!!

Best wishes to you!!!

Bump

Yeah, I've been wondering about this too. CDC doesn't track IUI stats and I wonder why...

At age 44 there's only a <1.5 chance. Not very good! That is what Dr. Sher told me from SIRM. I emailed him and that's what he said.

I conceived my DS 4 years ago when I was 41 from and IUI. I did IVF first that didn't work and then did 2 IUI's. The 2nd took.

Im 45 now and had a failed IVF in July 08 and am doing an IUI cycle this month. My RE told me that older eggs actually have a better chance with IUI than IVF because they don't do well outside of the body.

But I don't know - it seems like Im going backwards.

missed this thread the first time around...

currently 14w+ pg from injectable IUI at 41. (also have PCOS and weight issues) my ovarian reserve was 'okay' (although i don't recall the #s) 3rd cycle did the trick. it was a long, long cycle (iui cd21) with much higher doses. i asked if that was to compensate for age or PCOS (couldn't bring to ask about weight) and they said probably a bit of both.

also a successful iui at 39 (dd now 20 months) -- also PCOS and weight issues (although not as much as current go around). second injectable iui did the trick.

before that at 38 clomid iui was a bfp but m/c. subsequent clomid cycle canceled due to non-response. i don't recommend clomid for 40+ (or even late 30s).

at my clinic they usually do 3 tries of a tx before moving on. i was skeptical before, but now i'm a believer. and the third try this time did not seem any more promising than the first two....

if you haven't had an IF workup i highly recommend one.... an hsg in particular to make sure you don't have any tube issues.

if you have the option, i say skip the clomid, but that's just my 2cents. my injectable was gonal-f (luck of the insurance) but i know there are other injectables and tx.

good luck,
-tia
