question regarding Lexapro=== some TMI questions
I was on zoloft before I got pg. Dr took me off at first. I complained it caused me to have a huge difficulty reaching orgaisms, if able to get one at all. This was why I wanted to try a different one. The depression was getting bad by my 3rd trimester and did not want to be out of control weepy any more or out of control post partum depression and to be prepared and in my system by birth time. She said it was very safe and would give it to her own sister while pg. NOW I'm hearing you should NOT be on it in the last trimester and it causes a lot of dizziness and IS CAUSING ME NOT TO HAVE AN ORGAISM LIKE SHE SAID IT WOULD NOT DO!! I asked about wellbutrin, and she recomended lexipro over that. my friend had said when she was on wellbutrin that it did not cause orgaism disfunction like her other antidepressants had. Im not sure what to do. I'm a newleywed, and in a great relationship for the first time and don't want to deal with this issue. any inputs???? thank you!!!!!

I am a therapist and in our agency we do not like to see women on any anti-depressant while pregnant; however, if symptoms are unmanagable or put mother or child at risk then I would suggets differently. As for the orgasm piece, any SSRI has the sexual side effect peice. No, Wellbuturin does not have the sexual side effect piece; however, it may not be as effective. It deals with a different neurotransmitter in the brain. Get a second opinion, do your research and know all of your options.

Thank you Heather for the info! I have heard that, too. I was at the point of being constantly weepy and aggitated with the kids. nothing rolls off right now. I have been treated since 1993 with zoloft because of depression and anxiety. At that point, there was also some post traumatic stress in there and the anxiety attacks were taking over my life. I couldn't leave the house or hold a job. Zoloft changed my life and gave it back!!! I stopped with this pg and just have had a rough time. zoloft cut my libido and did not allow orgaisms. The lexapro has done the same thing when I was told it would not. I was on it a month and stopped taking it last week. I was in a bad marriage before that had no affection in the end nor a sex life. I jusst married my best friend and love of my life in aug and do not want to go there again, for the first time in my life, I'm happy and fullfilled there. Is there any other class that helps depression and the irritation that goes with it that does not affect libido or orgaisms?? what about herbs such as st. johns wort? I feel like I'm stuck in constant PMS right now and am sensitive and cry at the drop of a hat as well as irritated with no patience. I hate feeling like this. THanks for your imput!!!!!

A lot of these feelings are "normal" during pregnancy. Unless they are truly causing you serious problems in your life or are in fear of suffering from PPD, roll with it. Get exercise if you can, it will naturally help life your mood. Be open and honest with your new partner. Wellbuturin is the best to my knowledge that does not affect sex drive. But if you can, hold out.
