Girls, set me straight on all the testing
Hello girls!
I am 37 and due with #2. I have read your posts and since I am getting ready for my first OB appt, I thought I'd get your help about all the testing. I sort of remember from my pregnancy #1, but I was only 33 and it was a text book pregnancy, so I never stressed about anything. Since I am 37, I am pretty sure I'll hear all about the risks and such and I don't want to take tests that will automatically put me in the risk group because of my age. I know about the Nuchal test..... What else do I need to take and pass? Thank you in advance.

I only took the Nuchal. Not sure about anything else except Amnio which they may suggest, but since my Nuchal didn't reveal anything that made us want the Amnio we opted out. Those are the main 2 I know about.

There is the b/w that you do with the Nuchal I know for sure. Then I did some AFP Screen (I think maybe that's for neural tube defects/spina bifida?
) and that was done 3-4 weeks after the Nuchal. I believe my OB has it done between Week 16-18.

Hey Oli! I had the sequential screen done. Its bloodwork and u/s at 12wk-ish (between 11 and 14w but cant be done any later than 14w) and then repeat blood work at 16w.
It looks for Downs, T-18 and T-21 (I think) and also open neural defects. This was done at my peri's office. Based on these results is when the peri would recommend an amnio. My peri doesnt automatically do an amnio even if "advanced maternal age" just when the situation warrants it. Other than that and the NT scan I dont think there's much else. Good Luck!
